Problem returning a 2 lb item with a First Class Return label

I was automatically issued a First Class Return label when returning a 2 pound item (which originally had free shipping). I asked about it on the boards a few days ago and several posters told me that First Class returns can weigh up to 70 lbs.

I went to the post office yesterday to have the package scanned, which it was. The clerk then decided to weigh the item, said it was over the weight limit for First Class and canceled the transaction. Was she in the wrong? I tried to find info on the USPS site to back me up but it says that the weight limit on First Class Return Service is 13 oz. I can't find anything "official" online and most of the posts regarding this subject are actually from the eBay boards.

Is my only option to print my own Priority label? The return is supposed to be mailed by 8/3 and I haven't heard back from my seller after messaging them. I'm concerned about being charged for the First Class label though - the tracking number is now live though it's obviously not being updated.

i doubt they said that.... think you need to read it again...and be sure you read more than the first answer.

and USPS has a web site, i'm sure there is information there..or even GOOGLE, I'm sure you could have verified what 1st class is....

BUT yes you have to use the next option, and that is priorty...depending on what..box or envelope....

What a condescending and needlessly rude reply. I read every reply to that post, and read every response any other post I make. I clearly specified that I was issued a First Class label and expressed concern since FC is supposed to weigh under 13 oz (according to USPS & Google, which I do know how to use). I was told by multiple posters that FC return labels don't have the same weight restrictions.

Do you know if eBay charges for return labels if the item's never delivered?

I guess I might as well print a Priority label, the FC one is probably toast.

Re: Problem returning a 2 lb item with a First Class Return label

eBay charges the label only when it's been used.

Is this a NAD return or remorse? It makes a difference who pays for it.

Buyer's remorse - I bought a pair of jeans that didn't fit me. I would be the one paying for shipping.

If the label wasn't used, you won't be charged through paypal. I would track the "package", if the clerk didn't do an acceptance scan, you should be able to drop the package in the mail box with the same label.

Re: Problem returning a 2 lb item with a First Class Return label

For buyer's remorse returns, very few sellers provide return labels. Even major mail order companies don't do it! I know. A couple of years ago, I had to return a pair of sandals -- physical size much larger than the indicated size -- and the return label enclosed with the order clearly said that $7.99 would be deducted from the refund. I chose not to use the label and instead placed the sandals in a Priority Mail bubble envelope that cost much less. The company refunded my original payment in full.

Of course, eBay is pushing for all sellers to offer FREE returns regardless of the reason, but that is not common now. So I suggest you forget the label and send the jeans back and pay the shipping.
