I used to buy a lot for my workplace but have been retired for 2.5 years. Recently bought 2 items, and when looking at the tracking, saw that they were being shipped to my old work address. Went into shipping addresses and work was my primary. I didn't change it. Deleted all addresses except for my primary. Any idea about what could have happened?
Thanks,
Steve

I'm sorry that your shipping address was messed up. You are not the first person this has happened to. Several other people have reported that their ship to address suddenly reverted back to an old address they hadn't used in years.
I live in fear of this happening and try to delete all of my old addresses when I move, but even that's no guarantee. Sometimes eBay just pulls out an old address out of somewhere and goes with it.
Hopefully your old co-workers can help you get your packages.

When you go to checkout on eBay, the payment screen has the shipping address in the Ships To field. If that is not where you want it shipped, you have to click on the change button and either select another address from the menu or type in where you want it to go.
At at one time the checkout page would prefill the last address you used, even if you were just sending a gift to someone or in your case, shipping to your work. I think they may have tinkered with that function and it now reverts to your primary shipping address but I’m not certain about that.

In your site preferences for Ebay you have a few places you need to change your address just as you do in Ebay.
In Ebay you can have a Primary Address for account registration, a primary ship to address, multiple other ship to addresses, Primary return to address, multiple other return to addresses, Primary ship from address and multiple other ship from addresses. You need to make sure they are all correct and it would not hurt to check your PP account too.

Hey, just asking....
I thought the ebay & PP addresses HAD to match? Oh sure, ebay honors the "ship to" address that is given the seller at check out. But from what I read here, if that address does NOT match the PP address then the seller is going to loose an INR case filed with PP.
Clarification anyone?

True, the Ebay policy says they are covered under what seller protection Ebay offers if they ship to the Ebay address on the purchase OR the PP address on the payment notifiction.
BUT, the PP policy is NOT that generous. PP's policy is you MUST ship to the address on the PP payment if you want to be covered under Seller Protection.
So if there is a choice to be made, it is in the seller's best interest to ALWAYS ship to the address on the PP payment.
Now with that said, I believe Ebay is now matching the address to whatever the PP payment says. At least that is what I've noticed to be true over the past year or more. I've never had the addresses to be different. But I suppose it still could happen.

For transactions on eBay, the eBay and PP addresses ALWAYS match. Every time, no exceptions. There's no other way that it can be.
This is because the eBay Checkout process passes the address on the eBay Checkout page to PayPal, and it automatically becomes the address on the PayPal transaction as well. So if it's an eBay transaction, the addresses always match, and it's impossible for them not to match.
So, sellers never need to be concerned about this. As long as you ship to the address on the PayPal transaction, that will be the same address as the eBay transaction, and you will be covered by PayPal seller protection (if the transaction is eligible for it).
It has been this way for many years now. Some posters still don't seem to understand this.
FYI, this is the only way that an eBay user can have an item shipped to an address that is not in their own country. You can't add a foreign address to a PayPal account, but if you use a foreign address on your eBay Checkout, then the PayPal transaction will have the foreign address. I know this from experience because I have shipping addresses in two countries (USA and Canada).

OK thank you for clarifying the matter. WOW! For once I understood and got it right!
So is there a potential trap for sellers - ebay allows an alternative "ship to" address while PP does not and thus scammers can exploit the difference?
So are you saying when the buyer changes the "ship to" address when checking out in ebay, that automatically changes the his address in PP?

It typically isn't a concern. I have never had an issue. And Yes, that is what Lace is saying.
I suppose if a buyer goes directly into PP to issue a payment there may be a difference, but I don't think many buyers do that. And as I previously stated. ALWAYS ship to the address on the PP payment.

No, there is no potential trap, because the address on eBay and on PayPal are always the same.

No, not quite. eBay can't change the buyer's address in PayPal of course. But the address from the eBay Checkout page is always the ship-to address on the PayPal transaction, no matter what address the buyer has registered in PayPal.
Many years ago, it was possible for the addresses to be different, but it was changed around 10 or more years ago, in one of the updates to the eBay Checkout page.

It isn't possible to make a payment for an eBay item directly from PayPal. If you try to enter the eBay item # to do it, then PayPal will automatically send you back to eBay to make payment through the eBay Checkout page.
Again, it used to be possible to do this about 10 or more years ago, but not since then. I think it was the same change in the Checkout process as above, when it became impossible to pay for eBay items directly from PayPal.
If the buyer knows your email address, then they could use the Send Money tab to send you a payment, but it would not be tied to the eBay transaction or show up on eBay at all. This is one of the reasons why eBay doesn't allow you to share your email address until after a transaction has been completed.

Is it correct to assume that is the address that "comes up" when I print a label through ebay? Or do I need to double check each time?
The shipping address on the eBay transaction is always the same as the address on the PayPal transaction.
How many times do I have to say that?
You go to PayPal to check the payment status. When it says "Ok to ship" then you need to ship.
You can purchase the shipping label through PayPal or through eBay; either way, it will have the correct shipping address from the Checkout page.
It's easier to buy the label through eBay, that way the tracking number is automatically added to the transaction.

I agree with most of what you have said, however it hasn't been 10+ years since this was changed. It has been shortly after Ebay started doing labels.

I don't know when eBay started doing labels.
IIRC, the change in the Checkout process happened in the early 2000's. 2005 or 2006 comes to mind.
It was at the same time that eBay started storing a buyer's shipping addresses on their eBay account. Up until then, when the buyer changed their address on the Checkout page, they could access a list of addresses stored on their PayPal account to choose from or they could add a new one.
When eBay made this change, the addresses on the buyer's PayPal account were no longer accessible, and the buyer had to choose between addresses stored on their eBay account or add a new one.

OK, thanks! Calm down, please LOL!
There were multiple people answering on the thread and my comments were mostly to them. Sorry if I insulted you by not singling out your reply as the answer and asking for clarification from OP about statements. It was NOT my intent to ignore you or state that your answer was wrong Sorry if I gave that impression!

I have nothing to calm down about. DON'T be patronizing.
The point had already been made, several times, but you just didn't seem to get it.
If you understood the point, then why did you ask for MORE clarification? How much more clear could I make it, except by highlighting it in large red font?
