Primary shipping address changed without my knowledge

I used to buy a lot for my workplace but have been retired for 2.5 years. Recently bought 2 items, and when looking at the tracking, saw that they were being shipped to my old work address. Went into shipping addresses and work was my primary. I didn't change it. Deleted all addresses except for my primary. Any idea about what could have happened?

IIRC, the change in the Checkout process happened in the early 2000's. 2005 or 2006 comes to mind.

It was at the same time that eBay started storing a buyer's shipping addresses on their eBay account. Up until then, when the buyer changed their address on the Checkout page, they could access a list of addresses stored on their PayPal account to choose from or they could add a new one.

When eBay made this change, the addresses on the buyer's PayPal account were no longer accessible, and the buyer had to choose between addresses stored on their eBay account or add a new one.

Ebay has only been offering labels for the last handful of years.  May 3 years, I'm not really sure.

But I don't think it matters much anymore as to when it started.  The fact that it does now is all that really matters.

I did not see a need for the large red letters in the reply and assumed I had insulted you.

I truly appologized and it was not patronizing.  But it appears as though THAT was taken as an insult, which it was not meant to be.  Thus it appears we are on different wave lengths!

In post #9 I responded to a comment by mam98031.

This post I made was directed to mam98031, it had nothing to do with you!  It was clarification from a statement mam98031 made, Pure and simple.

In your post, post #11 you quoted that post Post #9) and appeared to be insulted and posted in BIG RED letters.  and then said, "How many times do I have to say that?"

So it sure appears as though you took something that I said to mam98031 personally?  What ever, you appeared "less than happy".

Then I tried to calm the situation by truly apologizing (post #14).  I guess the impertinent use of "Calm down" made you see red and discount the heart felt apology.

Jeez.

I try hard to be a nice guy on these boards, be helpful and apologize when I am wrong.  I see no point in getting into point-counter-point arguments on boards, life is too short.

So once again, I'll apologize for insulting you.    Peace!

MEN!!!  When men tell women to "calm down", it has the opposite affect.  LOL  But true.

I think all that happened was you were reading and responding to various postings and didn't see Lace's posts until afterwards.  It happens to me all the time.  Sometimes I start a response, my attention is diverted elsewhere for a few moments for whatever reason.  Then I finish my thought and post my response.  Sometimes by the time my response is recorded a few other people have said something on the thread.

But everything boils down to it being fine.  The addresses aren't an issue anymore.  Shipping to the address on the PP payment should be the same address in the Ebay purchase record.  But on the off chance a glitch or something else occurs, it is always best to ship to the address on the PP payment.  Then you are covered by Ebay and PP seller protection.

The address that it was shipped to was not in my paypal addresses. But it was in my Ebay shipping addresses. It had been made my Primary shipping address. But I didn't do it. And oddly, one purchase was shipped wrong, then one was shipped right, then the next was wrong.

Just a general response but it’s been at least 6 years since since eBay start offering shipping labels. My last sales here were in 2012 and I was buying my labels from eBay at that time 🙂

And another general response if I may.

The statement some posters have made saying the eBay address and PayPal address ALWAYS match is not entirely true. I think it led some to believe this was a permanent change to your primary address., or it’s something you need to add to your account. It is not. It just means that on that particular order only, eBay will use the address you type into the Ships to field on the checkout screen as the address on the eBay order history. PayPal also grabs that address for the order.

To ship an order to any address other than your primary, you do not change anything in your eBay settings, nor do you change anything in your PayPal account. You just put it on the payment screen and it doesn’t change anything in either account other than to save  that address as an option for you to use in a later purchase.

Thank you for that kind reply and explanation.  That makes much sense!

A wise old teacher once told me when I was frustrated and asked, "How many times do I have to go over something before they get it?" Her reply: "As many times as it takes to teach!"  Then she reiterated, that IF my message wasn't getting across, I could be frustrated, call the students names, insinuate they were slow OR I could change my approach, style until I found something that made the concept "available" or within the grasp of the student.

So I thank you for making this "within my grasp!"

I'm sorry that your shipping address was messed up.  You are not the first person this has happened to.  Several other people have reported that their ship to address suddenly reverted back to an old address they hadn't used in years. 

I live in fear of this happening and try to delete all of my old addresses when I move, but even that's no guarantee.  Sometimes eBay just pulls out an old address out of somewhere and goes with it.

Hopefully your old co-workers can help you get your packages.

Yes I had this recently happen to one of my buyers.  She was very annoyed and confused.  One of the guys from the Weekly Chat researched this problem for me and it was discovered that nothing unusual happened on Ebay's end.  My buyer came to the same conclusion, she just did not pay close enough attention during the payment process and made a human error.  I think this may happen a bit more than some buyers are willing to admit.

When posters say that the addresses always match, They aren’t talking about the account addresses or thinking it’s a permanent change, they are talking about the addresses on the eBay order details/sales record and the PayPal transaction. Those addresses always match. Whatever address is provided as the shipping address during checkout will be the same on the eBay side and the PayPal side. That’s all posters are talking about.
