Parcel Returned - What is the Protocol?

I've just received a parcel returned from Portugal. The tracking shows that there was 3 attempts at delivery. Address was correct. What does Ebay expect me to do now,  am I obliged to pay to re-send the parcel?

Thanks,

Re: Parcel Returned - What is the Protocol?

Though similar, the policies for eBay sellers here in the United States are sometimes different from those that UK sellers need to follow ... so, you might want to pose your question on the UK boards.

But, here in the US, an attempted delivery is treated by eBay as a delivery.  That is, the buyer has to accommodate the delivery, and that could be the end of it.

When this has happened to me, I try to be reasonable even though the buyer (likely) made a mistake.  Thus, I send a message to the buyer telling them that the package was returned due to reason XYZ ... and ...

  1. I will reship if they give a correct address and provide for the cost of the second shipping to me through PayPal.
  2. If they do not want to pay for the reship, then I either (a) refund the cost of the item through PayPal less shipping, eBay and PayPal fees ... and block them; or (b) refund via "Problem with buyers address" ... and block them.
  3. I do have an exception to #1 and #2 above:  for a high dollar and relatively low postage item, I may offer to reship for free ... but, I need a valid/correct address.
