I was overcharged for shipping and can't find a support phone number to eBay or comment on ant of the existing threads about this.
Ebay quoted me $9.80 to ship via Fedex. I printed the shipping label and thought that I would pay the $9.80 at the FedEx. FedEx charged me $24 for packaging and said that eBay would send me a bill for the $9.80. Ebay sent me a bill for $54. I sold the item for $80 and for some reason the seller paid $18 shipping, which I thought was odd, but made me feel like I wasn't getting ripped off to bad by having to pay $24 + $9.80 shipping and handling.
If anyone can help guide me to the right place to talk to someone about this I would appreciate it. Most of the other threads say that people get bounced back and forth between FedEx an eBay and that eBay is the only one that can do anything about it because the FedEx charge was to eBay on their FedEx account.

Residential surcharge is just one of the surcharges eBay doesn't add into their estimates.
Why do you perpetuate this mis-information?
I have NEVER seen a residential surcharge not added by eBay on a FedEx label.
Just one example. See the residential surcharge there?
Show your proof.

You have a grudge against FedEx, you don't use FedEx, you have p*ssed off everyone at FedEx within 100 miles of you, and I'm weary of this.
See the $3.45 residential surcharge there?
See the $4.20 Extended Delivery Area Surcharge there (as other charges)?
The $0.94 Fuel Surcharge is there too.
There is nothing about that shipment that will result in any surprises unless the shipper does something stupid (mis-measured dimensions, mis-weighed, using an incomplete address, or adding an after-the-fact special service like Package Pickup that isn't offered here)
You are correct that the eBay label flow doesn't have any option for package pickup as the FedEx online label flow does. My take on that is that it is therefore an extra service (similar to having a FedEx store pack the item) and it's on the shipper to understand that by reading the FedEx service guide and having some clue as to FedEx (and UPS) operate.

i gotta say you are all messed up...what you did to ship is the craziest thing i've gheard in a long time...
did i see an ebay lable with 3 lbs...and then fedex with 22 lbs? and you estimated and printed ..then took it to fedex to have it packaged...why? you didn't have a box and packing material? then you estimated it by what method?
i'm not saying something was wrong , but mostly its you...and what all you did.... and to be honest no matter what you paid ebnay to print....once fedex gets it and scanns it...the real price to ship(not counting they packed it)...is what will go to ebay and at end of month will be the amount you will be charged.... so if you printed it as 3 lbs...and it was really 22 lbs...you'll pay that once it is accepted and scanned...
you should do some learning about shipping...and costs..and ways to ship...i doubt a CS rep would even be able to follow that...good luck

So the $54 charge from eBay included your sellers fees? Like in the FVF? So they really only charged you the $9.80 they quoted you, plus the 10% FVF and any listing fee/upgrade.
Where did you read that packaging supplies are free if you use the eBay label? I'd like to get in on that.

I expected FedEx to be able to package it to the dimensions I put in in eBay. I read online that packaging is free if you use eBay shipping label. I didn't know that shipping costs aren't actually calculated until after the fact. I assumed the label would include enough information for FedEx to properly package it to the quote and that they would notify me when I had them package it if that wasn't the fact.
I'm pretty sure OP read wrong or read bad information. The only time FedEx packages for free is when you use the ebay valet program. You just take your stuff to a fedex location and they package and ship it to the valet seller at no cost to you. Anything you sell yourself, FedEx will not pack for free with an eBay label.

@daveg_db Where did you read that? Fedex does not pack for free when you use an eBay label. Now if you use ebay valet, yes they will pack & ship the items at no cost to you. But you didn't use eBay valet (eBay valet is where you send your stuff to an eBay valet seller and they attempt to sell it for you)

I don't know what FVF is, and I don't understand all the fees, but it looks like shopping was about $35 and $9.80 was seller fees, and there's a $15 return fee also (did they return the item and I still haven't heard about it?)
The post right after yours is correct. It turns out the free shipping is eBay valet, which isn't the same as printing shipping label from eBay

I think you need to take a breath and step back from selling until you read up a bit more on the process. FVF means final value fee. EBbay charges 10% of the final sales price including shipping costs that the buyer pays. I can't imagine how you were charged a return fee and didn't know about it. Do you you check your eBay messages?

What the heck does eBay Valet have to do with any of this?

It turned out to be much more hassle than it was worth. I thought eBay had it all dialed in to make selling things a breeze for people, and 10% plus the quoted ~$10 shipping would have been fine.
You assumed. eBay makes nothing easy. FedEx and UPS shipping can be complicated and require some effort on the part of the shipper to be used. If you had no idea what you were doing you should have had FedEx handle the entire thing and gotten a quote from them, because "about x" x y" and approx z pounds" absolutely doesn't cut it for shipping and label creation.
2006 klr650 side plastics - painted OD green
Tracking No: 9261299998825431251786 Bill Wt: 20.0 LB Freight Amt: $31.64 Fuel Amt: $1.49 Misc 1 Amt: $2.75 Perf Price Disc: $-1.11 201900860390 May-06-17 10:31:56 PDT FedEx Shipping fee US $34.77
The seller fees were $9.80, and FedEx charged me $24 for packaging (again, I don't sell stuff often and didn't realize how much cheaper it would have been to go get a box somewhere first).
Notice the shipping fee says 20 lbs. That is ridiculous. They are plastic and wayed less than 2 pounds, and they were placed into a cardboard box that was about 24"x12"x12". The entire thing wayed less than 10 pounds. I have the receipt from FedEx here and it doesn't say the weight on it anywhere.
You assumed again and didn't do your due diligence. The 20# shipped weight is more correct than the 2 or 10 pounds actual weight, due to dimensional weight considerations (google "dimensional weight").
Billable shipping weight is the greater of the actual weight or the calculated dimensional weight. (Big, light packages take up disproportionate room on trucks and are charged accordingly by all shipping carriers including USPS)
FedEx Dimensional weight = L x W x H / 139 = 24 x 12 x 12 / 139 = 24.86# = 25#
Based on the dimensions you have above it should have been billed at 25#, and consulting the FedEx Service Guide indicates that it probably was - the only entry that comes close is a 25# pkg shipped to a Zone 8 destination (1801 miles or more from your location) for $31.99
The $2.75 Misc 1 Amt is unknown - it doesn't correspond to any known Delivery Surcharge, Signature Confirmation surcharge, or anything else I can find. More info about the shipment would be required to determine what that one is for.
Regardless, the $34.77 you were billed looks correct - you were not overcharged (based on the little specific shipment info you provided here)
The seller fees have nothing to do with this - you pay 10% of the total for the selling services eBay provides.
The $24 you paid FedEx to package it for you was an extra service, has nothing to do with eBay and the shipping label or the shipping charges.
I'm sorry to be harsh, but you made a series of assumptions and mistakes that created this problem, and trying to blame eBay for it isn't going to fly.
If you care to provide more info and fully dissect the FedEx charges to better understand I'm here to help.
