Our Local post office

My postman has been on vacation, and someone is taking her place.

First, when I schedule a pick up at the front door,I keep getting USPS email saying nothing is found at the front door,my postman usually ring doorbell,I do not leave items outside.

now I wonder if front door means on the porch, does front door implies ringing the door bell?

One day I caught him at the mail station delivering our mail into indivdiual boxes and I gave him the packages,he has the pick up request, but it does not look like he will stop by to pick up packages,so I am lucky to have caught him in time. He looked at the sheet and said he thought it was pick up in the mail box, which is not true,it is at front door.

So the next day,I thought since he likes to pick up at the mail box,why dont I leave them in my mail box, with a sheet of paper taped to my mail box-please pick up these packages,I also went online and request pickup in my mail box.

Well,he did not pick up any of my packages,so I complain to the USPS website.

Next day someone from our post office called me and asked me to try putting some packages outside the door behind the bush as a test?

I did,and he did not come ,but I found other people 's mail in my mail box,so now not only did he fail t o pick up mail at front door or behind the bush or in my mail box,he is delivering other people;s mail into my mail box, which makes me wonder did he deliver my mail to someone else 's mail box?

how can I find out if he has delivered my mail elsewhere, and what kind of training has he received from the post office?

Winter is approaching and they are known to go home once it gets dark and cold, without delivering all the mail, some have been caught destroying mail?

Last year, they did not deliiver my insurance renewal notices(3),when I received the 4th one,it was a cancellation notice,

This year I did not receive my August bank statements.

Once someone received  a promotion deal from my bank and sign me up for a subscription so they can get a free radio?

Once I received a letter meant for my neighbor asking me t o renew warranty for an Audi,I do not own an Audi.

Once I received a bank statement of a neighbor with same street number but different street name, since I have an account with than bank,I open it by mistake and found this neighbo has $350 worth of NSF in 3 months .

Is this normal for a post office?

comments please?

what should I do?

take them to a post office ,I have already printed the shipping label online.

Re: Our Local post office

where does a post office recruit new workers and who provide training?

Last year they hired several trainees and fired them all after finding out instead of delivering mail, they were destroying mail by trashing them.

They were all  fired  and the reason was they are not suitable for postal work?

how do they screen their new hire, how can they tell if they are fit to deliver mail?

They asked you to put packages behind a bush?

Re: Our Local post office

First off, DO NOT open mail not addressed to you. Mistakes do happen but opening someone else's mail is a crime.

Next, do you have your house number clearly displayed on your mailbox? It should be on the side that shows when the carrier approaches and not obscured from view.

Next a scheduled pick up you can indicate that they should ring the bell or better yet provide a place like in a tote for packages to be picked up or delivered.

New carriers are given training but it does take time to learn a route. I have a route that has well over 500 addresses, a good % of these have multiple family names and I have a list of current COA's that is 2 sheets of collage ruled notebook paper long. I have around 20 notes taped to my work station noting everything from dog temper's to places to leave or not leave packages. My route is 97 miles long, I dodge Amish buggy's, farm tractors, and cows daily. And also moonlight as tour guide and give directions to lost sight seers several times per week.

It will take the normal carrier several months to come up to speed on casing mail and delivering the route when we get a new placement. Subs may work a route only a few days per year if it isn't the route they are attached to. My sub works mine every Sat. but often also works 2 other routes (those that the carriers work 6 days per week normally) and often gets asked to work a route in a totally different office where she may not even have a passing knowledge of the area.

I know getting your mail messed up is never fun but the job is not as simple as it may seem.

Re: Our Local post office

Also another point. If your house is in an area where it can be mistaken for another address you should have the house number also on your house and prominent enough to see it with ease from the street.

It takes me a good 6 hours to deliver (not casing or loading time) my 97 mile long route.

Re: Our Local post office

good advice,I know delivering mail is not easy,I live in a subdivsion and mail is delivered to a mail station where one master key opens all the mail boxes in that station, but the mail misdelivered are from a different street, only the street number is the same or close like 7311,7310,7315.

This morning,I just received an email from USPS claiming yesterday pickup at my door is SUCCESSFUL?Well,I left the light on till 9 pm and  no one comes to the door,so how can the pickup be SUCCESSFUL?

I think the newly hired do not realise how tough mail delivery can be,and the mail they are delivering are mostly junk mail, either flyers or solicitation mail,so why not trash it,they wll be trashed anyway!

I have changed my preference to receive my bank statements and other sensitive mail  online   ,it is just more work for me to print copies but better than to rely on USPS to trash or deliver to the wrong address.

Yes,I know I should not open other people mail,it is a mistake on my part.

Re: Our Local post office

yes,the lady from my local post office asked me to put my mail behind a bush right outside my front door, just to see if this mail man would pick it up as he is the one who complained he did not see any mail to be picked up when he showed up at my door.
my regular postman who is on vacation always ring the door bell when I scheduled mail pickup-front door.
what is the difference between front door pickup vs front porch pick up?

Re: Our Local post office

We have one of these post guys. He's lazy and vindictive. Multiple neighbors have complained. The post master just laughed at us and said nothing she could do. Or she will "talk" to him. Cripes 8 neighbors went to the PO at once to complain. If you complain your mail gets misdelivered or goes missing and always the important things. He will not deliver packages and you have to go to the PO to get them. We dealt with it for years till finailly I just went and got a PO box. Moved the bills to be delivered there.  Now I let the junk mail pile up so much he has trouble putting more in the box.

And don't open your neighbors mail, it's a federal offense to do it and you wouldn't like it if your neighbors did that to you.

Re: Our Local post office

I know USPS is broke, every quarter they lose billions of dollars.

At one time, they said they are going to start a bank, like accepting deposit and paying an interest, what happens to that idea?

also if they are shrewd business man and woman, they should selling packing supplly cheap to draw people in,with their buying power, they can get tapes, lables, enevlopes, bubble wrap cheap.

Re: Our Local post office

You have a choice of where to place your packages for pick up. New carriers are not experienced enough to know any better. There was a mail carrier that missed picking up my packages three straight times. I did open a complain about him. Haven't seen him since. There are a few lazy carriers who have been delivering mail on my block.

If you are receiving another person's mail, don't open them.

Either give them to the carrier or place them on your mailbox

so they get delivered to the right address. You wouldn't like it if someone opened your mail, now would you? That is a very serious federal crime btw.

Re: Our Local post office

Seeing these complaints makes me sad & it also makes me appreciate my mail carrier! She's a great lady, I've never actually had a conversation with her but we have yet to have a package go MIA. She parks in front of my house but we're actually the 2nd to last house to get our mail before she moves down the street. Anyway, she pulled up yesterday just I leaving for the gym and she saw me & handed me an amazon package, saying she didn't want to leave it at the door. She could have just continued on her way & headed off on her route & dropped off the package when she got back around to my house but she saw me leaving and got the package out & gave it to me. I really appreciated it. Package theft is very common in my city.

Re: Our Local post office

My regular postman who is now on vacation is also a very nice lady, she told me she has been coaching the new workers but they never listen ,it seems once they are on their route, they just do what  they please.

I have seen many carriers come and go,when I inquire where they are,the answer is always 'oh,they have their own route now'?

did they or is it another way to say -they are fired !

Re: Our Local post office

OMG that sounds like my mail lady.

Last week I was standing in the yard when she delivered, she put a package pick up slip in my box (dated for the day before). I went to the PO to get it only to find out it was still in her truck.

She once pulled up to my box and threw my packages over the fence in the middle of a snow storm, the expensive book I had bought for my in laws for xmas was ruined, a few weeks later she put my packages in the chicken coop.

Ive complained till Im blue in the face, she'll be taken off the route for a week or so and then shes back and worse than ever.

Oh yeah and she feeds my animals her left over lunch. That really really ticks me off
