Offered free priority shipping on a comic I sold for 18k and buyer is complaining.

I sold a hulk 181 cgc 9.8 and offered free priority shipping. I have in the past shipped with fed ex and ups and both companies ruined my books. My ad stated free priority shipping. I mailed it off on the 29th with priority registered mail from Austin. Granted we didn't get what Houston got but we did have horrible weather. The guy said he needed it by September 1st. Well the item didnt show up and now he is calling me cheap and and is telling me he is going to go out of the country for 2 weeks. I'm at my last end with this buyer. I have told him I am sorry for not over nighting it but I offered free shipping at my expense and he is complaining. What should I do? I could use the money but not at the expense of my health.

My only concern is that even though he sounds like a legit buyer, he's left the country. So he can't sign for it.  What did he say to that? Does he know it's arriving when he's not around?

PayPal only allows 10k per transaction. Did they pay two transactions? If they paid with one, did you verify the money was in your PayPal account or rely on an email that was sent to you?

Sellers have been unable to leave neutral or negative feedback for buyers since May 20, 2008.  So even the most terrible buyers have lovely 100% feedback.  If a seller leaves a positive rating with a negative comment, that's a policy violation and the buyer can get it removed.

Registered mail is kept secure. If it fits it will be kept in the safe. So if this buyer is out of town and puts his mail on hold it will be there when he gets back.

If you had shipped it UPS or FedEx they would have made an attempt and left a door tag. After so many days it would have been shipped back.

If he complains again tell him if it was good enough for Harry Winston it's good enough for you and include this PDF https://about.usps.com/who-we-are/postal-history/hope-diamond.pdf

His feedback is irrelevant. Did you log into PayPal and verify that he had paid and that it was OK to ship? Did he make multiple payments to you? Paypal's maximum transaction amount is $10k so there is a huge red flag here.

You have bigger problems then you story. I would have never sold that on eBay, local pick up only, for cash at the bank (they can count and scan the cash).

With that being said, the item had a delivery time listed and the buyer accepted that delivery time. I would ignore and block.

I sure hope you had that insured.

BTW, even under the best circumstances it might not make in 3 days.

THIS is the $18,000 question.

The sale sounds legit, but you never know. We're getting this info 2nd hand.

The OP might be in much better shape then I originally thought. In order for eBay's MBG protection, the purchase must be paid for in a single payment and since PayPal has a limit of $10K per transaction....   😉

OP, I have to ask - did you actually LOG IN to Paypal directly to verify the payment? Paypal payments are limited to $10k, not sure how the buyer was able to pay the full $18k.

The easier you are to offend the easier you are to control.

Actually with in 1hour of my sale he paid for it. 18k in PayPal. Just got a message from him saying he received and signed for the item. So thank you all for all the input it really put my mind at ease.

After eBay took their 2.9 % it was 17k and some change. I was wondering that myself. I always thought it was 10k as well but I was super happy to get the money. I will say to avoid a headache next time I will overnight it. Thank you all again for all the help.

I'm so glad it worked out for you.

But I am curious. The listing shows that it sold for $21,500. Did you accept his best offer?

@tjbailey1980 eBay doesn't take 2.9%. PayPal does. You still owe eBay $750. I am still curious how the buyer got around PayPals $10k transaction limit.........
