New Shipping Rates Questionable at Best

Yes, when one adds packaging costs, Plus the 13.25 % eBay charges on all items, the new shipping rates are almost at my cost or in many cases they are higher. Yet we are told how Great their new Rates are.  They want to lower costs to buyer at the expense of the seller.  Even eBay can not stay in business for very long if they just Break even on sales.

Re: New Shipping Rates Questionable at Best

If you use calculated shipping eBay is now giving the buyer's the discounted rate that sellers used to use to offset their shipping expenses and fees. What you have to do is go into your shipping preferences and then click to use retail rates instead of the discounted rates. Either that or go to a flat rate type of shipping.

Re: New Shipping Rates Questionable at Best

Hi @rican2000 . The setting to offer buyers discounted rates can be found on your shipping preferences page under the carrier specific discounts setting: https://www.ebay.com/ship/prf

Since eBay charges a fee on total cost buyer pays (item + ship + tax), by charging discounted rates you are losing money on every single package. If you want to make up for that you can add a handling fee or increase your item costs - or simply turn off the setting to pass buyers the discounted rate and instead charge retail rates for a built in cushion.

Many sellers have opted out because that's what works best for them. You do not have to go along with eBay's push for sellers to take a loss.

Re: New Shipping Rates Questionable at Best

After paying more for shipping than I received on my last two sales, I will switch back to the retail shipping option. In the past I have frequently sent sellers rebates on shipping if what they paid was too excessive. Ebay is giving up a smidgen in fees at the expense of sellers as a way to gin up more sales. Another sign of Ebay's avarice and disregard of sellers.
