Did you mean:

Neighbor using my address

Hi everyone,

This has nothing to do with me selling an item. I received a package with my address but wrong name. It turns out that it belong to my neighbor. She came to pick it up the next day. About 5 days later (today) the man who delivered it came to speak to me about the package. He told me that she put in a claim yesterday that she did not receive her package she did. I explain to the guy that I gave it to her and she has it. It seems that she did that intentionally and I do not know what to do.

I'd suggest you made quite a few assumptions in your scenario.

The fact that she came to pick it up from the OP makes me think she probably knew what was going on IMO...How else would she have known where to come looking for it?

Oh, yuck... Yes, I missed a key detail, so I read the whole thing wrong. The neighbor retrieved the package and then filed the claim (or INR dispute) several days later, so yes, it does sound like she thought she could get away with it. The PO has the GPS coordinates on where it actually went (and possibly its actual street address in their intranet records), and an INR dispute based on delivering the package three doors down wouldn't work anyway, as long as the OP's City and ZIP are the same as that of the buyer.

(She's claiming that she didn't receive the package at all, right? She's not claiming that it had the wrong item in it, is she?)

The OP never mentioned an INR claim though. or an ebay case period. It sounds like an insurance claim was filed.

In that case it could be insurance fraud as well as mail fraud.   Nice neighbor the OP has, in my opinion.  I hope she doesn't slip on your sidewalk the next time she's collecting something she has delivered to his address.

Re: Neighbor using my address

Yup she's claiming she never received it when she clearly did. Apparently this is not the first time she's done this. She's done this to other neighbors. It was a package from amazon.

Bummer!  Not the type that I'd recommend for the Good Neighbor Of The Year award. Smiley Wink

Re: Neighbor using my address

Do you mean the carrier came back and said the person filed a claim for non-delivery? That is really strange.

If you don't want your neighbor using your address then tell her so and report this to your local post master.

Actually, it sounds to me like it was more likely an insurance investigator making the inquiry.  Just guessing.

Re: Neighbor using my address

Yup, which I find ridiculous because obviously they came looking for the package here since she used my address. The carrier came looking for it because this is not the first time there was a "missing package" of hers. So, I obviously said the package did arrive. I don't think my neighbor thought this whole thing through lol

I once had my mailman come to the door asking about an insurance claim a seller I bought from filed. He sent me an empty envelope, so I opened a SNAD and he opened a USPS insurance claim. I had sent the seller pics and he used those in the insurance claim.

My mailman had seen the photos I had sent the seller and wanted more info from me about it. I don't know if this is a new thing, but it seems like a good idea for USPS to look for more information by asking people in person.

I'm actually not surprised the USPS showed up at the OP's house asking about it.

Yes, that sounds more like what happened.
