I have a weird situation
I shipped an item to a buyer over the Holidays - tracking shows it was delivered on December 28th. However it turns out the buyer was on vacation and had a vacation hold - which when you have this it does show delivered as the PO holds your packages. On Jan 2nd the item shows it was retrived from the PO but could not be delivered due to an addresss issue. The item shows it is still in their home PO and the buyer is working to find out where it is
The item is insured so I have initiated a claim with USPS but in the meantime what is the process? From my end I shipped it and it shows it was delivered, from the buyers end it shows delivered to their PO but lost after that? We are both out the item
Any suggestions?

Bottom line is that tracking shows that it was delivered to the recipient's zip code, so your are protected against an Item Not Received claim. You will not be forced to refund.
I'm surprised that USPS tried to deliver; my PO forces you to come pick up when you end a vacation hold. It sounds like the package went back to the PO after the failed delivery attempt — in which case the buyer should be able to pick it up there.

That is what I thought; thanks for the verification,
The buyer told me it was on the way back to me and she wanted me to reship it but I show its somewhere in her local PO
I will try and file a PO claim if they cannot find it and if that works I would be happy to give her money back; but beyond that to your point it shows delivered to her PO and I was hoping as you stated that does protect me ...thanks 🙂

She needs to file the PO claim and figure this out on her own. It will be much easier since it involves HER PO and she can go down there to talk to them 🙂

If the package is being returned to you as undeliverable, I would be surprised if USPS pays out insurance. Since the claim is based on the package being lost, and if the package is returned to you, everyone knows where it is.
If the package is returned to you, it will probably take a week or two, but it won't be the worst thing in the world. You can arrange reshipment with the buyer (although it would be best if she got a straight answer from her local PO as to why they couldn't deliver it first, to avoid more problems), or arrange a refund.
