Losing 10% on shipping charges

OK, I've been here 25 years and have seen a LOT of changes, some good, some not so much so.

I understand why eBay has moved to charging a final value fee on the shipping charges; so many sellers were selling $20 items for $1 and charging $25 shipping. But what about the rest of us? When my buyer pays $20 ACTUAL shipping for an item, I only get $18 because eBay has taken $2 out of that!

Now the worst part? They charge my buyer tax then take 10% of that away from me as well!!! Yes, it's usually pennies or maybe a buck or two, but that adds up.

Anyone else have an issue with either of these items?

That's your choice.

I choose to charge buyers actual ship cost + padding to cover eBay fees. Sometimes the cost of shipping supplies is build into my item price, other times into ship cost and other times split.

You know how the fee structure works. Charging a consolidated fee on item + ship + sales tax has been a reality for several years. If you don't price your items to cover those fees then it's not really eBay's fault if you're seeing a loss.

What about sellers that offer free shipping? You're essentially saying they should pay more fees than you because they choose to offer free shipping, building the ship cost into the item price.

Bottom line: factor all fees and expenses into your pricing. Even things like pens, notebooks, or whatever other supplies you use to manage your business.

I don't agree and am looking into it further.

"...I don't agree and am looking into it further..."

What part of a lucid, informative response don't you agree with?

Good suggestions, not hostile or offensive. ..

We are given a set of policies/rules/guidelines....agree or disagree, we have to work within those parameters...
