I ship paid items on time, indeed even ahead of time, and yet my account is almost dinged--not by the Buyers, who thank me on feedback for the fast shipments--but by ebay itself, who claims that the tracking shows late shipments!
Were it not for this "late shipment" fallacy, I would be a Top Rated Seller, as this is the only marker against me (I have 100% feedback score).
If there are others out there who have this problem, too, would you help me out in what can I do to fix this with eBay?
Thank you!

You need to do more than just ship on time ... you need to get an acceptance scan from the carrier within your handling time (stand in line at USPS to get the scan, make sure your USPS carrier scans on pickup, or scan at an automated kiosk).
If you do not, then you are subject to late shipping problems.

I agree with orangehound.
You need to print out the SCAN sheet and make sure the postal carrier scans that sheet, or if you go to the post office, have the postal clerk scan that sheet. Even when I have only one package, I stand in line to have that SCAN sheet scanned.
My tracking uploaded on time and validated is 96.97%.

Just happened to me. My Ebay shows time of arrival from 7 to 10 days and took 7 days which would give me extra time for the extra handling time too s I have a 2 day handling time but send things out the very day of payment. NOT good enough. Ebay totally goes on the amount of days the PO gives you from the time it is clicked into the PO. It kills me as I live in Hawaii and all items are sent out at night so a whole day is lost added onto the time added on for going to the east coast. Sad situation I can do nothing about and reps just say rules are rules. Horrible. Just give up as Ebay always rules and they love to knock down sellers and eventually increase their fees.

RESOLVED
I contacted eBay and they were very helpful and removed 5 late shipments that on their system weren't correct since i sent everything on time.

Late shipments
To provide your buyers with great service, it's important to make sure you send your items on time. Late shipment rates are determined by the percentage of transactions that you sent after the handling time stated in your listing, or were not delivered by the estimated delivery date.
We'll only consider a shipment as late if:
If more than 10% of your transactions are classified as late shipments, we may limit some of the shipping options available to you to make sure buyers have the right expectations on delivery times.

I have the same issue with eBay. I ship sold items out immediately and still the eBay Tracking System tracks the shipments late. I don't have time to stand in line at the Post Office every time I ship an item. That's ridiculous. eBay did reverse one of the items that it tracked late because I notified eBay within 30 days. There were a couple of items that eBay tracked as late, but I wasn't aware until after 30 days. eBay REFUSED to reverse the late tracking on its part because it was after 30 days, EVEN THOUGH the eBay rep knew that I had shipped the items immediately upon payment. eBay is absolutely INTRANSIGENT regarding this issue. eBay is doing Sellers no favors by refusing to reverse its late shipment tracking after 30 days. I will probably lose my Top Plus Seller rating due to eBay's absurd rule of not reversing it's own faulty late shipment tracking after 30 days. Seller should NOT be responsible if the item is shipped on a timely basis.

I never stand in line at the post office either but rarely have a problem with late shipping hits. What exactly is happening? Do you upload tracking on time? If you upload on time and don't get the acceptance scan (just happened to me last week), you will still be okay if it arrives within the estimated delivery time. Are your packages arriving late?

I have nothing to add to this post, but I thank you for your info. This explains why after 8 days I inquired as to why my purchase was shown as being shipped but no tracking number assigned. Seller told me she lost the tracking slip from the PO and was HAPPY I contacted her. She asked me to wait a couple of days and if it didn't show up, she would refund my purchase price. Less than a half hour later, while I was telling her that her solution was perfectly ok with me beings it was not due until 29th anyway, I get a notification from EBay for a full refund from seller. Thank you.
