I just received a package marked as being a return for an item that I did not sell. To clarify, it's not that I sold something different and the buyer is trying to return a different item. I didn't sell anything to this person, and haven't sold anything on E-bay in many years!
I have a slip that was included inside the package that allegedly includes the item number, the return ID number, the ebay buyer ID, and the order #.
I tried calling the E-bay 800 number, but that has apparently been disconnected. Obviously, this appears to be a scam, but I can't easily find a way to report it.
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

this has been an ongoing situation in the past: seems your address go added to the list.
Part of this is some review item and get paid for it scam:
Ebay can not help you with this. You can try entering the item number in the search and see if you can find the seller that way.

You didn't get any money from the sender?
You didn't give any money to the sender?
Happy Unbirthday-- it's a gift-- like any other unsolicited shipment.
If you want it, keep it.
If you don't want it, donate it or trash it.
Not your problem.

My concern is whether or not Paypal will now hit my account for a refund.

Yeah, I searched for the item number and it shows nothing. I assume there's no way to delete an item that was sold, so it's not clear to me why it wouldn't be showing up. Strange.

No that cannot happen. This isn't tied to your selling account as you never sold it. PP would not take money out of your account as a debit that never showed as a credit to begin with. That's not how returns work on the financial side. There are many scammers online these days. They use other valid addresses sometimes. Really not much you can do but it's very kind of you to want to try to get this to the proper seller. Best of luck to you....

But beware of any emails purporting to come from eBay or PP demanding that you refund.
Check out the extended address and report them to spoof@ebay or spoof@paypal.
Do NOT answer them.
Since you opened the parcel, could we be nosy and ask what was inside and how much it is supposed to be worth?

Yeah.....not worth that much. It's a Nintendo Switch knockoff Joycon....roughly a $30 item.
