Item arrived damaged buyer says not responsible ? Now what?

Purchased an item which arrived damaged, contacted the seller to inform them of the situation. It appears the items was damaged in transit as they have photos of the item intact before shipping. They stated 'do not return item, submit an insurance claim with their global shipping company'?  Trying to figure out is this done through the regular 'refund' process (seller does not offer refunds) , or is this insurance claim through another process and how? Thanks.

Re: Item arrived damaged buyer says not responsible ? Now what?

If I got an accepted solution for every time I 'solved' the OP instead of them marking their own post (or no post) as the solution, my #s would easily be tripled or quadrupled. I'm sure that's the case for many posters here. Good thing I don't care about or keep track of that stuff. I'm not in it for recognition or to play a stats game - just trying to help out other eBayers where I can. But thanks for the acknowledgement anyway, @mtgraves7984.

Besides, even though I was the first person to correctly answer their question and let them know what to say to the seller that's pushing back at them, I believe they liked glyph's response better.

Re: Item arrived damaged buyer says not responsible ? Now what?

Thanks....that was the problem I encountered....various methods we're suggested. Not sure why ebay doesn't just spell it out plain and clear as to handling a global shipping program return vs. a simple buyer refund and the different steps for either?  The agent I was in touch with indicated their was no difference in either.....which left me puzzled since the buyer did not want me to return it but to pursue the issue with the GSP? That implied their is a difference?

Re: Item arrived damaged buyer says not responsible ? Now what?

As I said above, there is no difference for the buyer. You are the buyer so for you it's the same process as any other package that arrived damaged.

Your seller is uninformed about how to handle it and is unintentionally confusing you as a result. Open the claim. Tell the seller what I said about contacting CS and asking for a GSP specialist - or tell them to come here and we'll help them with the best ways to contact CS and get it resolved quickly.

Hey thanks! Finally got the clear-cut answer I was looking for.  Seller did ship with insurance so hopefully I might be refunded by ebay for the cost of the item which arrived damaged.

The insurance that the seller used for shipping would likely have ended when the package arrived at the GSP center.  The carrier will not take responsibility for shipping beyond that point with the initial insurance.

That really isn’t a solution if the item was shipped with the GSP as any insurance purchased by the seller was only valid until it reached the gsp Center. Once it reaches there, it is forwarded by a different carrier.

As @wastingtime101  a gsp damage claim is handled by the buyer the same way a non gsp claim is handled.  You have to file a return request saying that the item was damaged in the shipping process and the seller needs to contact eBay about it.   If it was deemed to be shipping damage, the gsp will refund in full without requiring a return.

Thr above info is valid only  if  seller used the gsp.   If they actually  used eBay’s international standard delivery program than the seller has to refund you with or without a return and then they can file for the insurance that comes with that service.

@drwho534

Odd solution. I'd opt for the certain  refund from the seller, as @wastingtime101 has explained. Well... good luck, anyway.

Odd solution indeed, as it is an incorrect solution, because the seller insurance ended upon delivery to the GSP center.

@drwho534

It really can't be spelled out any more plainly and clearly as it is described in the Money Back Guarantee.

You're taking on the seller's obligations.  Don't overthink it; just open the claim.
