Insurance Claim Not Reimbursed

Hello,

I refunded a buyer for an item that was lost by USPS. I then filed a claim with eBay's third-party insurance company, providing them with all the requested receipts and documentation. Nearly two months later, they still haven't issued a refund on my claim or provided regular updates on the next steps. Their only explanation was that they needed to contact eBay's security team, which seems an excessive delay given their partnership. I'm considering contacting the Consumer Protection Agency; do you have any other advice on next steps?

Re: Insurance Claim Not Reimbursed

Often when a ShipCover claim is delayed it's because they send the buyer an email asking them to confirm whatever the problem was (non-receipt, damage), and the buyer failed to respond to that request.

I suggest giving ShipCover a call directly to see what's going on. They're pretty responsive. You can find their contact info here:

Re: Insurance Claim Not Reimbursed

If the item was also covered by $100 in USPS insurance, you need to claim that. Shipcover only covers the excess.

It would not surprise me if failure to claim the USPS insurance affects your experience with Shipcover.

Thank you for reaching out.  Feel free to communicate with us directly using the same email thread we sent you on 7/3.  As we’ve discussed, the claim documents show that this item was shipped incorrectly to a person and address that was not part of the original sale transaction. The policy does not cover packages shipped or addressed incorrectly.

We understand the buyer contacted you after the sale and asked to have the item shipped to a different person at a different address.  Unfortunately, this is against eBay’s policy.  You would need to cancel the sale so the buyer can repurchase the item using the correct name and shipping address.  At this time, your claim is not covered because it was incorrectly addressed.  However, we have requested additional information from eBay’s security team in an effort to assist you with this claim.  Once we have received that documentation, we can finish our review and possible approval.
