INR for direct signature required

Its been interesting reading past discussions on this topic but I am curious what the current consensus is.

I bought an item recently from a 6,000+ feedback US seller for about $300 which is under the $750 seller protection requirement. Shipping was listed FedEx ground or home with no other specific shipping details listed. The seller decided to mark the shipment as direct signature required, that option or another specified that I can't see prevents any changes by myself for signature release, signing a door tag, specifying delivery time/location, hold for pickup, etc. A signature is not possible so even though other packages were left by FedEx during the delivery attempts, this one will be returned since it had 3 delivery attempts. Even more fun, FedEx has no locations near here so its 50 miles away.

20 years on ebay and this is the first time a seller has done this to me and I am more than a little PO'd. The item will be going back to the seller and I am happy it's 60 lbs and was free shipping. My question is would it be better to file an INR on ebay, use a different category, file with paypal or jump to a chargeback? The seller is going to eat the shipping since they changed the shipping terms by not specifying in the ad that there is a direct signature requirement and being under $750 where ebay terms would provide assumption of a signature requirement.

Today was the third delivery attempt. Current status on ebay shows out for delivery and "Delivery exception - Customer not available or business closed" under details.

Re: INR for direct signature required

There is no day I would be available during the random time Fedex might show up. Even if there was, it wouldn't matter. Fedex is busy, they ring the bell and bolt. If I am not 5 feet from the door, they are gone before I can get there. That's why I would have signed a door tag or used a signature on file so it could be left, the house is available for delivery 24/7.

Anyways, Paypal refunded me a few days ago. Now I am just hoping feedback stays. grin

Re: INR for direct signature required

I’m not sure why it wouldn’t let you redirect. Direct signature doesn’t block that.  Walgreens isn’t the only option for that either i know one of the dollar stores is and I want to say there’s a third option for redirecting. The only thing I can figure is you waited to late for that option?   Something that might have to be done in the initial transit and not after they already tried to deliver maybe ?

Re: INR for direct signature required

There could be another option the seller chose that blocked the redirect. I looked at options while the package was in transit, redirect was blocked. Still, there is no reason for me to jump through hoops to get the package. My house is available 24/7 and even with a regular signature requirement I could have signed a door tag and had it redelivered the next day. Or better yet, the seller could have disclosed the additional shipping requirements and I could have gone elsewhere to begin with. The seller made this difficult, now they ate $40 each way on shipping plus ebay fees.

Some times it can just be part of shopping online.  Like I said I had the issue with a purchase from Walmart last Christmas I had no idea it would be direct signature required.  I had to find a way to be able to get it.  With Walmart I’m not sure what would have happened if I hadn’t found away to pick it up but I didn’t want to take the chance to find out

Re: INR for direct signature required

Hi John,  I recently did this exact same thing as the seller for a $300 item. I have nothing in my shipping notes that might warn a buyer a signature might be required. The big difference is it was going to a brand new buyer with zero feedbacks who joined eBay it seems, just to buy my item.... take a look around these boards and see how often scammers claim INR.  Frankly, in your case with 700+ positive feedbacks I’d just ship as normal, but not in this case.   I did send a message to the buyer saying it shipped and signature was required. You think eBay is going to have my back without a direct signature? I know what policy is but sellers better take extra steps to protect themselves.  Does FedEx not leave a card on your door saying attempted delivery, just sign the card and they will leave it next time? Just a peek at the other side of the coin.

Few things if it’s under 750 and it shows delivered yes eBay will decide in your favor only exception in rare rare occasions is if the buyer shows the Usps gps showing it wasn’t delivered to their address but gps shows a wrong address signature confirmation won’t avoid that rare occasion.

This was direct signature required a door tag is not an option with that.  The receiver has to be physically there to sign

Yes.

There is no need for you to try to create a gray area where there is none. Signature confirmation is not needed on sales below $750. Delivery confirmation gives you the protection.
