long story short (this is mostly about clearing up my own confusion regarding eBay than an issue with the seller)
I received a broken item, along with missing parts and generally not as described.
opened a return, seller offered me a partial refund, which I declined.
Seller has since told me via messages that eBay has already withdrawn the full return amount from his account but I have absolutely no proof that this is true other than the seller's word. (and a screenshot from the seller reflecting a negative balance, but nothing in said screenshot to indicate that its related to to our transaction.)
The return page has not been updated to reflect this refund (most recent action is that I declined the partial refund) and I've not received any messages or emails from eBay to confirm said refund is actually taking place.
its now been 3 days since seller claims the refund amount was taken from his account.
now, I realize that I may not actually see my refund reflected in my account for up to a month (depending on payment method) but I figured that by now I would have at least seen some kind of official confirmation of the refund one way or the other.
Do I simply have to wait longer or is something fishy? I've never had to deal with an eBay return before so I don't know how long is too long to wait before contacting eBay to confirm.

When the return was opened ebay but a hold on the amount of the sale in seller's account. If the return is still open seller did not refund so proceed to ask ebay to step in on the date shown in the refund details

you need to use the return label and send the prouct back to the seller.than you get a refund.
you do not need to communicate with the buyer,it changes nothing.you should return the item and keep all communication within the dispute console

what does the status of the return state?
Have you actually returned the item to the seller?
if not you need to do that by a certain date stated within the return prior to eBay releasing the refund

Has the seller provided a paid return shipping label?

Ive not been provided a return label. seller said I don't have to return it.

I think this might be what it is. I think the seller has misinterpreted the hold as the actual refund and then just stopped doing the process assuming it was taken care of.
