I have majorly messed up. Shipping errors.

Alright I've screwed the pooch here.  So last weekend I had a sale for trains and a sale for GI Joes. On Friday the train fellow says these are not my trains these are GI Joes. Luckilly he was great no big deal on his end. So I contact GI Joe guy and say you may have trains coming because train guy has your GI Joes. All good he's being reasonable. We've all done it before. Here's where this is getting interesting. So I drop the packages on Tuesday at the counter of my new USPS since my regular USPS no longer exists. I can see the scans for the train guy who got the joes but the package that was sent to the GI Joe guy says I still have it. I definitely do not have this package of trains. The post office has the package.

I am thinking it is possible I didn't switch labels because I am really good about that. I always write the item inside the box on the box and reweigh before I buy the label. I am thinking it's possible I printed the train guys label twice and it got put onto both boxes and usps scanned the gi joe box first. Today as I was packing up I saw my new fancy thermal printer did that because I am now paranoid of messing up so I've been real on edge the last few days because I messed up a 100 dollar order and that's just not acceptable.

So anyway Friday at the USPS I ask the lady I hand all my packages to if they have like a reject mail bin or something she says no which I find hard to believe but you know them government employees. so she gets the tracking number of the missing package and no information other than they dont have it. she didn't look she typed on a screen. So I guess I should go back tomorrow morning and give them the shipped label number and see if anything turns up? I just don't know what to do or how to handle it. luckily the customers have been very understanding of this whole thing. but to add onto the mix up there is a missing package.

what do you all think? ever been in a pickle like this? thanks

The clerks in my post office look it up on screen and also go to a room in the back and I usually get some type of report printed on paper handed to me. An I only go to the old timer's who been working at my post office a long time. I will wait in line until I get the clerk I want to check something for me.

Although both buyers are cool because they want their items...what happens later with the feedbacks is anyone's guest.

I have gone as far as refunding my buyers and even giving something for free...and telling them if items get returned I will mail them out. Yea, I also lost a few hundred dollars here and there. And here the crazy thing, even though I refund them and send something for free...I have never ever gotten any thank you or feedback from them.

Good luck.

Re: I have majorly messed up. Shipping errors.

I had it made a month ago the USPS was at the end of my street but now I have to drive 10 miles. My old USPS had great employees that knew me and would give a little extra attention if I had a question. I just wasn't a fan of the response they don't have a bin for reject or unsendable mail. If I printed the same label twice and it got on 2 packages what would be the post offices response to this? will they send it back to me eventually? or does it become something that gets auctioned off? it does have my return address on it either way. I've had non scans get delivered before.  I'm just trying to keep the customers happy. yeah I'm going with he throw in some more items and ship when I get possession back. so far so good on the customers end. I refunded the train guy he says if I get the trains he still wants them and I'll probably just ship em out because he was awesome sending a 100 dollar package back my way. im only in a dollar on the trains no big deal. I'm in probably 50 or 60 on the gi joes though so it's definitely not the type of loss I like to take.

I printed the label twice lol. the guy who received the figures first received his trains yesterday! really surprised that the usps will send 2 packages on one label. unlimited shipping hack! just joking. lesson learned on my end. this new fancy printer is just too much technology for me to handle. anyway that's how it all ended up. very thankful for some great buyers and the train guys honesty.

I just read your post and was about to say I bet the one guy gets both packages and then I saw your update.  Glad it "sort of" worked out for you.

You may be billed for using the label twice.   eBay could be billed by the USPS and then eBay would bill you. It could be weeks before this happens.

"I always write the item inside the box on the box..."

Thats a really good way to wind up with a stolen package, just saying.

Regarding your having to drive 10 miles to your nearest USPS facility, isn't there some way you can have your packages picked up by your mail carrier?

Re: I have majorly messed up. Shipping errors.

If you go to the USPS WEBSITE and your packages are all labeled and ready to go, the post office will pick them up at the location you choose (i.e. at the front door).  ebay actually has an area when you are buying a label that will take you directly to the USPS site
