I did not receive the item I ordered but I got an email saying it was delivered I was home when they said they delivered it and it never was delivered

Here are the possibilities I can think of:

1. It was delivered
   • It was stolen
   • Someone in your household picked it up
   • It is at an unexpected location, like back door or fallen off the porch
   • It is in a package holding area, such as a room at an apartment complex or a package locker
2. It was misdelivered
   • It is at someone else's home  - the delivery company can tell you the GPS location
   • The seller put the wrong address on the package, but the zip code is the same as yours - this is a scam that is sometimes seen on eBay, typically with high priced items.   Again, the delivery company can tell you if your address was the address of the package.
3. It was not delivered
   • The delivery service used the wrong code during a scan.  If this is the case, you'll see the package continue to move.  This happens from time to time.
   • The (lazy) delivery person scanned multiple packages in bulk, but didn't deliver them (yet).  Typically the package will be delivered the next day.
   • The email you received was fake, and not really from eBay or the delivery service.
   • The email you received was an error (never heard of this, but knowing eBay it is possible).

Most will not tell you were delivered: but can say the are not delivered to an address.

Such is called a tracking number scam: such is some cheep item is sent to your location but not you.
