How to handle a no returns accepted listing that was damaged in shipment

If an item item is sold(btw, it was a condition is not applicable because it was vintage I guess) but was stated in description as for part/repair and no returns accepted and gets damaged in shipping, how should the situation be handled? I think I already know that no returns means there is the possibility that the buyer can not return it and still get their money in many cases, but how does Ebay see this since this was not because of INAD, but a damage? Will imagine since it apparently arrived damaged(have not seen pics yet), that would be not as described, but will they try to automatically give the buyer their money back without returning? I would have no problem giving their money back if it is damaged as long as they pay for return shipping but it has a good bit of weight to it so I'm not sure they would want to pay. Also, how should I handle the claim with Fedex? Do I have them send pics and use those to start a claim immediately without shipping it back and causing further damage?

How would a buyer be out even a penny for damage caused during your shipment?

Btw, should I never list as no returns accepted...  is it totally useless to do so?

You are responsible for getting an item to a buyer without damages. The return should be opened as a damage return in eBay's system, not as a SNAD. Ebay will ask you to work with the buyer. If you don't reach an agreement by a certain date, you or the buyer can ask ebay to step in. What I do in those cases is ask the buyer for pics and ask them not to send it back (unless from the pics I don't see any damage). I refund them once I get what I need for the insurance claim.

If I were you, I would file the insurance claim as soon as you get pics. I have never filed a claim with Fedex, so I am not sure how their process works. With other shipping places (USPS, my insurance company), they require pics (of the item and of the original packaging and label) or a statement from the buyer that the item arrived damaged beyond repair. If the buyer refuses to cooperate, my insurance and USPS have both paid out claims to me if I upload an ebay case stating damage.

If you want the item back to use or resale you are responsible for the shipping back to you.

If you want the damaged item back, you will be paying for return shipping.

You will then be giving them a full refund.

Cream... yes, what you mentioned is what I have already been in the process of doing with the buyer and exactly how I am going to handle it. I saw pics and believe it was damaged during shipment.

So what about my question concerning listing as no returns accepted? Should I never do this and there a absolutely no point in doing so under any circumstance?

Re: How to handle a no returns accepted listing that was damaged in shipment

There is no reason not to list an item as no returns if you don't want to accept returns. I don't offer returns for deeply discounted items (final sale), media items (buyers can copy and send back) and fragile/delicate items (too hard for inexperienced buyers to ship back properly).

However, in terms of a buyer getting something damaged or it getting lost in transit, that to me doesn't fall under "returns". It is trouble during transit and should be covered by insurance, or by the seller if the seller opts not to insure items. Legally, the item is the seller's until it is delivered. I use Shipsurance to insure my packages. They are a cheap and efficient way to insure items. I highly recommended them.

Another note: eBay can force a return if a buyer claims SNAD, as their position is at least the seller has the item back and then the buyer will get their money back. For me personally, this is a very rare case and I have won every SNAD dispute except one in my 13 years on ebay.

Not sure how much of a difference it makes between INAD and SNAD, but what is your secret for winning in those instances? It seems that is you say returns not accepted and the buyer lies and claims NAD just to get their money back, they get it 99% of the time and if you have no returns, they aren't even required to send it back.

Re: How to handle a no returns accepted listing that was damaged in shipment

INAD (item not as described) and SNAD (significantly not as described) are the same thing, I guess we are simply using different acronyms.

The truth is my secret in winning; all of my SNADs have been dishonest ones and I have evidence to prove it.  I upload evidence and call ebay, or paypal, to have them review while on the phone with me.

I have never seen ebay not require an item to be sent back to the seller unless ebay decides to pay the seller and the buyer. eBay will not release money to the buyer until tracking shows a package delivered.

A damage return is a SNAD, one and the same.

"Not as described" return requests ... include:
Doesn't work or defective
Doesn't match description or photos
Wrong item sent
Missing parts or pieces
Arrived damaged
Doesn't seem authentic
