Whenever I buy a shipping label on eBay for an order, it automatically deducts the amount of the shipping label charge from my PayPal account. If my paypal account is zero, it then starts to deduct it from my bank account. How can I set it up so that I charge my credit card instead?

Go into your seller hub. Click the Payments tab scroll down towards the bottom of the page to look for Selling costs..click manage..add your credit card there.

It's all done on Paypal; you have to add a credit card and then make that the 'preferred' way to pay (although they will take from a Paypal balance BEFORE going to your preferred payment).

^^^ This is how I understand it, @tonaltubescom. In my experience, you link your credit card through PayPal and set it (in your PayPal wallet) as the 'Preferred method of payment while shopping online'.
Note: I did not know that they'd pull from your PayPal balance first... and still don't know for certain as I don't keep one.

Am I missing something? Usually if I buy a shipping label through eBay it is taken from my Pending funds in Managed Payments.
If there are no pending funds in my Managed Payments account, the money comes from my bank account, because I don't have a credit card attached to my MP account, so that tracks.

I didn't think so either but yesterday I made a payment (not eBay related), I had a few dollars in my PayPal balance and even though I deselected my balance as a choice and selected a Debit Card they still insisted that the cash balance would be used first and then the rest via the debit card.
I don't recall this happening before (don't use PayPal very often anymore). Maybe instead of the debit card I should have selected the chequing account (same one the debit card comes from). A transfer from the bank account would have been 10 cents cheaper for PayPal than the debit card so I get why they might be doing this. These days pennies really matter to PayPal, their share price is tanking and the word on the street is mostly bad.

Wowzer. I love it when actual experience comes to the boards! What you've suggested sure does make sense...
I made a payment through PayPal to another site last night and ran it through my checking since it was selected as 'Preferred'. Afterwards, I could kick my own booty that I didn't change it to my (checking-associated) debit card to gain that last layer of protection.
Not worried with this order (Fanatics), but made a mental note for future purchases. Now, I'll make another note. 😊

Following my thinking... surely you have your PayPal's 'Preferred method' set for your bank account, as I do.
After all, don't you have only 'Your funds' or 'PayPal' on the label screen? 'No funds' and it goes to PayPal, no? 🤔

Trust me; that's how it works. I have 2 PP accounts (1 business, 1 private) and both have NO WHERE to 'make' them use CC or Bank Account first as they even state "we'll use PP balance first".. and both my accounts have the CC as the Primary! But only if the PP balance gets to $0.

Sorry that I can’t provide the link … I’ll try to find it … but there was an OP complaining (in the last week) that they dislike eBay’s new AutoPay with offers because they can’t use their PayPal balance with AutoPay. Are they mistaken? [It sounds like they must be if PP automatically uses the Balance first … UNLESS AutoPay works differently for some reason.]

I think it's best if they change the payment method on here to credit card. Paypal has changed how some vendors now get paid and if there aren't any funds in your paypal balance, they will reject the transaction. It's not an automatic to back up funding anymore.

They changed their policy pretty recently. If there are any funds in the PP account they will use that first, regardless of your back up funding. If there aren't any, they may reject the transaction all together. I had to change the way two of my suppliers are paid because it no longer automatically goes to the back up funding without available PP funds.

That's for debit card transactions. I should have been more clear.

I still have a PP account and occasionally use it for online buying, but since eBay sales don't go there anymore, it is not attached to my MP account.
Nor do I have a credit card account attached.

It has been this way since Ebay started 'Managed Payments' started because I tried to 'set up the CC as the preferred as a test but kept 'feeding' this PP account from the 'other' PP account that has money coming in from our own site.
I will stop feeding this account and when it gets to zero I will see if it 'reverts' to using the CC (so we can get the 'percentage back')
This is the PP Policy (if that's what you want to call it) because even though I set the CC as the 'Preferred' you can see what they state and there is no way to change it.
