How do we handle "past due" returns nowadays?

Things are ever changing and I wish Ebay would go back to giving sellers more control over closing out returns...

Buyer opened a return claim August 27. They had until September 11 (this past Friday) to return an item.  I haven't heard hide nor hair from them.

It USED to be once that date passed, I could just close out the return since tracking wasn't uploaded or the ietm not marked as sent back. But because of COVID 19, Ebay always seems to change handling returns.

So how do I close this out at this point? Just wait for the return to "expire" at some point? Lat time that happened, it was 2 months after the buyer had to send an item back...

And I'm sure it's in a Seller Update somewhere, but again, things seem to change on the fly and I can't keep up...

Thanks!

Yep.

You can't have a return closed now, you just wait until they decide to close it.

Starting April 1, 2020, we will no longer close returns early at the request of a seller when the buyer has not shipped the item back. Instead, we will wait to ensure buyers have sufficient time to provide proof items they requested to return were shipped back.

Yeah, this was back in April, but I know SOME things have changed since... like they used to have 45 days to return something... now it's a shorter period.  So this no "early closure" is still a thing I guess.

So when CAN I close this out?

What happens when you try to close it? I'm only curious... I haven't had a return in forever.

Yes, since July 1, it's a special pandemic-extended 10 business days now, the same as the 10 business days stated in the standard policy. Then 5 additional business days to check that the buyer is still alive, also standard policy.

This mudpie is regularly $9.99, but for you, we've lowered it to $9.99 special price.

No option to close. It used to be in the drop down menu that you could just close it, even a day after the buyer was supposed to return. No more!

Re: How do we handle "past due" returns nowadays?

I had a non-returned item recently and eBay auto-closed the case a few days after the deadline had passed. The case was decided in my favor but now, after the fact, it appears the buyer received a courtesy refund. Just give it a few days..

Yeah, well, the buyer sent the item out AFTER their commitment date. Even though I just have to deal with it, I get bells and alarms if I am a day late shipping out an item I sold... but I soldier on...
