Got refunded for the return item without sale tax?

Hello everyone.

I bought a pair of jeans on Ebay and paid 10% for WA sale tax. Unfortunately, the jeans arrived not as described so I returned them back to the seller. I got refund for the jeans only without 10% sale tax (which was a separate charge under Ebay). I had contacted ebay and they asked me to wait. It has been 1 week. I feel so cheap and silly about myself for having to call them multiple times just for $5.33. Did anyone have this problem before?

Since the seller didn't collect the sales tax, that portion of the refund will need to come from eBay.  I believe trinton@ebay may have more information about the process.

Check your original payment method, and you should see the sales tax refund there.   eBay's kluge of a billing system handles state sales taxes it collects as a separate charge from the item ... that is you get two refunds (one for the item, and one for the sales tax).

Re: Got refunded for the return item without sale tax?

I had kinda the same problem. I bought a $40. item and paid $3.20 in sales tax. when I returned the item the vendor refunded me the $40. but eBay (who the tax was paid to) only refunded me $2.70. I agree that for a few cents or more, it not worth messing with, but I think its wrong, if not illegal, when eBay charges the tax then claims to not be responsible for the refund. I called them twice and they told me that I needed to get in touch with the vendor then the second time they said that PayPal was to blame(neither is true). eBay charged it, they should refund it.
