I sold a record to someone in Japan and the GSP placed a restriction on it in KY.
eBay has now told me that records cannot be shipped to Japan (and several other countries).
WHY>?
Anyone have the real info?

I haven't heard of this, but I found things like records that are detrimental morally might have issues. It might just be eBay's broad net that you're caught up in.
Was it the "The MOODY BLUES Days of Future Passed Deram IMPORT LP 1st 1W/1W NM", I can almost see that.
I sure hope you get your LP back.
I stopped selling internationally years ago, it's just not worth the headaches. Maybe if you post in the collectibles forum, I think they have a LP section.
I did find this: (I suggest you read it)

It probably has to do with the Global Shipping program itself, which I would make a point of calling them (not ebay) to find out which countries are blocked, and why.
Here's the link to us postal restriction pages by country...but I don't know if The GSP uses strictly USPS.

USPS has very few restictions to Japan. Vinyl records are not one of them. There are no restrictions listed on the GSP page. Almost makes me think an employee liked your record. If your heart is set on selling internationally, I would just ship them yourself.

It was Bach Heifitz LP on RCA...
They gave me all kinds of conflicting information.
One of the messages said that "vinyl" could not be shipped to Japan.
I have been trying to get a firm answer, but none is coming forth.
I just cancelled Global Shipping on all 524 of my records.

Good move. Your customers would be paying ripoff rates to GSP for someting as simple as a record. Just get some album mailers & do your own international mailing. 1st Class International is all you need. I shipped jazz records to Japan a lot - they are HUGE jazz fans over there - w/no prlblems.

I shipped a Jazz LP " MODERN JAZZ FESTIVAL (HL7196)" last week.
I was told it was a RESTRICTED ITEM. mY BUYER GOT REFUNDED AND i GOT TO KEEP MY MONEY. ???
"The item was stopped at the Global Shipping Center, and has been restricted from international shipment. The item will not be shipped forward to its final destination. "

Richard- Any time eBay involves itself where there's really no need for them to be involved crazy stuff like this happens. The arrogant incompetence of this company is just staggering.
I'm a record guy myself- just ship directly. I can't think of anyplace that would ban Heifitz... not even North Korea. Good grief.

Same thing happened to me with some records to Japan. I now specify in my listings I DO NOT use the Global shipping program Ebay has. I wonder who is going to get those records in Kentucy. I think it is a scam. I doubt if they just throw them away.... I think someone in Kentucy got a nice Mono 1st press 6 eye Miles Davis 'Kind of Blue" instead of the good person in Japan who bought it. I really think there is funny business going on. Remeber the more hands that handle something the more things can be messed up maybe ripped off.

same things happened to me, rare classical Leonid Kogan pressing going to japan from the uk! restricted at depot, customer refunded and i kept the money.. contacted Gsp and waiting reply from Pitney Bowes.. ebay says that the "label" might be restricted.. ahah Columbia SAXs?
weird.. i reckon they keep and resell for profit
