Okay everyone, so long story but please help me, I may need to file a police report and I need to know the best way to handle this.
I am having an issue with a buyer. She is claiming that the item is not as described when I have ample evidence that it is. She first stated she wanted to return the wig because she “didn’t like the color etc” but when I stated that I did not offer returns, she changed her story to claim it isn’t as described and the “photos are false and fake”. She claims that the wig is darker than she expected, but I listed the wig as a medium blonde, uploaded the original receipt with the color stated as “darker blonde with subtle roots” and she claims that the photos made it seem like a light blonde. I uploaded numerous photos in natural bright lighting, including some of me wearing it which you can see the true color. I believe the buyer is being deceitful in trying to return the item. She initially offered me $350 for an item listed for $650 and we agreed on $550 and I paid for shipping. When I first shipped it, she was getting frustrated because it was delivered late (even though I told her it was probably delayed due to covid-19) and it had only been two days since I shipped it and she claimed it wouldn’t arrive in time for her wedding on Tuesday 4/21. Now, one week later, she is claiming the item is not as described, which she should have known when she opened the package a week ago, if it were wrong, but it is not. I have a photo of the wig in the package time stamped to the day I took it to the post office to prove it is the exact same wig that was pictured and that I sent to her. I did not mislead the listing in any way. I tried reaching out to her to ask for photos and haven’t heard from her yet, but she has initiated a refund request. Customer Service on Twitter told me that if she escalates in on May 1st they will automatically process the refund and that I have to pay for shipping. This is unreal and I cannot believe that is the way eBay is doing business. I was under the impression that ebay took the time to investigate the situatuon and decide who was in the wrong, not automatically take the side of the buyer. This is really frustrating because it is $550, that is a lot of money and she shouldn't receive a refund over false accusations. She even stated that if I did not process the refund she would open a case to ensure she got her money back, like she knew how to work the system. I have attached the photos of the listing photo, my timestamped photo that matches the listing photos exactly, and my timestamped post office receipt.
If ebay pushes through the refund request, can I refuse to pay shipping and refuse to refund her? Can I file a police report for her being deceitful? I truly don't believe she will send back the wig or send it back in the quality that it was. Below is a photo of the wig on my listing and a photo of the wig in the box right before I shipped it. They look the exact same. I've asked her for photos of it and she hasn't responded which is what I think is ridiculous about ebay just automatically refunding her when you can clearly tell they are the same. Please offer any insight if you can. I used the money to buy a new wig so I can't even afford to refund her and hope my wig comes back in good shape. Anyone have insight? Thanks.

Just send your buyer a nice message: "Sorry you are unhappy with the wig. Please return it for a full refund. Attached is a pre-paid mailing label."
Fighting return requests on ebay is a losing proposition for a seller. Your no returns policy is trumped by ebay's MBG every time.

Do yourself a favor and accept the return. If you try and fight this, the buyer is going to escalate the case and eBay will refund her without requiring her to send your wig back to you. In essence, she will have both your money AND your item.
When you accept a return, the buyer is required to send the item back for a full refund.
Sorry that this has happened to you...it is probably a case of buyer's remorse and she doesn't want to pay for the return of the item...or worse...she may be sniffing for a partial refund (you did say that she wanted the item for $350.00).
Good luck.

Key word was wedding. Home depot has the same probblem with returns at times. The "buyer" needs a tool to complete a project, it is a one time project, they "buy" the tool etc, use it and return it for whatever reason.
Did she need the wig for her wedding??? I would love to see the wedding photos.
Just saying,

I don’t think you have any bearings on filing a police report as returns happen all the time! It doesn’t matter if you say no returns. If a buyer wants a return and files for a snad or inad that’s all they have to do! If she returns it yes you will have to pay. eBay will take the money out of your account or if you refuse they will refund her from your account and let her keep the wig too! Either way you lose! She probably used it for the wedding and now doesn’t need it anymore! It sucks but it happens. You can have all the pictures in the world, but you will lose out on this one! Filing a police report if you get the item back is silly! That would be like Walmart or Target trying to file a police report for returns!

...it's situations like this that is the main reason why I do not sell higher ticketed items online...

However if you have her name it may be possible to look at her wedding photos to see if she is wearing it! You can check Facebook and if she has it on I would send her the picture of her wearing it and then say what you have to!

If I click the “accept the return button” what happens? I don’t have $550 in my account to cover a refund. And how do I ensure she mails it back to me? Or do I just message her and say please mail it back and if it arrives in the exact condition I mailed it in I will refund you?

You should accept the return before the 1st because if eBay steps in to decide you'll end up with a defect for a case unresolved by the seller and eBay's decision is always the buyer wins. You get your item back and they get their money back. Accept the return. eBay will provide a return label and charge it to you, The buyer will have 5 days to return it. When tracking shows delivered you'll have 2 business days to refund. Alternately you can issue an agreed upon partial refund and let her keep it.

what circumstance(s) allow a buyer 30 days for returns? Is that just while the covid virus has everything turned upside down or?

You can refuse to refund and pay return shipping, but that doesn't mean you won't be paying it.
If the buyer has to ask Ebay to step in, they'll probably refund buyer from your Pay Pal account and let them keep the wig.
I don't really think the police will care if the buyer is lying about the color of the wig.

Buyer has 21 days to return.

I ended up accepting the return and sending her a label through usps. eBay told me she has until may 29th to ship it back. Doesn’t that seem like an awful long time?

Yes it is a long time but e bay has extended the time frame because of the virus.
