FedEx Smart Post

I have been dealing with a damage item that I sent through eBay FedEx Smart Post - what a joke! No one will accept the claim. Not eBay and not FedEx. I have been dealing with this since September. Now when I call eBay about this they put me on hold and then hang up. I am so done with eBay not supporting the Sellers. I have been a Seller since 2006 and this is how they treat you. They won't call me back now or answer my emails. We are the ones making eBay all this money but when we have a problem forget it. Unbelieveable! Is there anyway we can get a hold of a manager at the eBay offices??????? I am out $85 because of this fraud. Don't ever use FedEx Smart Post. It should be called FedEx Loser Post.

FedEx Smart Post

You are person who packaged this item. Why would EBAY be responsible? If you are shipping breakable items it is always best to get insurance coverage.

I doubt FedEx will handle claim for FedEx Smart Post either. Perhaps, could be tax writeoff (damaged merchandise)?

1.  You choose the  carrier probably  because it was cheap.  FedExSmart post is a "hybrid" type shipper - one leg of the  journey is  handled by FedEx the last part by USPS.  Any insurance claim made  would  be a finger pointing match of "I didn't do it, they did" at  best between the two carriers.  Meaning you are on the  hook to reimbuse  buyer and if you paid extra for  insurance - neither  carrier will have your back.

2.  eBay has no skin in this  game and shouldn't and won't do anything.

3.  Possibly the  damage was  caused by insufficent  packing  protection.  Seller issue.

4.  Next time spend a few more dollars to ship you stuff via a one carrier shipper from point A to Point B and be certain  the packing is adeqaute to protect  damage to the item.  Seller responsibility.

5.  Didn't  know eBay  had an e-mail laddress that you could send in your  "questions or complaints" - just a telephone number to  call w/ a security code.

6.  When you call  eBay CS - you can request a transfer to a supervisor.  Give it a try - odds are nothing will be resolved to you satifaction.  But  GL anyway.

FedEx Smart Post

FedEx SmartPost default $100 indemnity only covers loss or damage while in FedEx possession. Once handed off to USPS there is no coverage, and unless it was noted in the tracking by FedEx that there was damage to the package, there is no claim (broken items in an undamaged package due to insufficient packaging are not covered).

The proper procedure has been to file an online claim via eBay shipping labels pages:
https://my.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?MyEbayBeta&CurrentPage=LabelManagement
or
https://www.ebay.com/ship/lmng

Not sure if the option is still in either place (have no Smartpost shipments in recent past and have never had to file a claim with any carrier).

Smartpost had worked fine for me as both a seller and a buyer. Just don't use it much since Jan 2018 when rates went up and it became mostly useless since price was higher than FedEx Ground for most things I ship, or price was so close to Priority or Parcel Select there was no point in using it.
