Ok. I sell sneakers on eBay, mainly ranging from $85 to around $300. I normally ship my shoes out using USPS, the prices eBay quotes is half decent and the convenience of printing the labels out etc make it a pretty seamless process. About a month ago I started comparing the shipping prices in the shipping label screen after sales and noticed that the FedEx 2-Day shipping prices were just about $2 cheaper on average than USPS. So I started shipping out using FedEx and saving the $2, I was paying through Paypal just as I had been when using USPS. One night I click on my "Account" screen to see the fees and my invoice has racked up some $300+ in fees! I scroll through the list and the abnormal amounts are from me using FedEx to ship the shoes. Example below:
Nike Air Jordan Retro VI 6 2014 Sport Blue Size 11384664-107 MEN'S SZ 13.5
Tracking No: 391384570770 Bill Wt: 11.0 LB Freight Amt: $96.65 Vol Disc: $-33.83 293523755562 Mar-25-20 14:09:34 PDT FedEx Shipping fee US $62.82
First issue is the shoes on average weigh 4lbs, and thats inside the regular shoe box with that box placed inside a regular cardboard shipping box (4lbs!) This is an actual pasting from my seller fees section, they have 11lbs listed there. The issue comes from eBay showing the seller the compared prices for shipping between USPS and FedEx, the seller choosing the lesser cost with FedEx and then being hit for $62.82 in shipping fees in addition to all of the other fees eBay and PayPal take out. In this example the shoes sold for $100, I charged $12.95 for shipping and the buyer paid $8.25 taxes on the purchase. His PayPal payment to me was $121.20. eBay took the taxes of course ($8.25) and a ($3.81) fee directly from PayPal leaving me with $109.14. Then they take $62.82 from me for the shipping leaving me with $46.32. The shipping cost was displayed at $12.62 when I purchased and printed the label after the sale. The purchase of the FedEx shipping does not appear at all on my PayPal account. Im trying to figure out what kind of game is being run here. Of course you can't speak to anyone about this, of course the money is automatically taken each month, I almost give up! Without any good explanation for this, it falls directly in the SCAM category. Someone please chime in and advise me on how we are allowing this to take place.

Does 14x10x12 in incur a dimensional weight surcharge?

OK ... I think you may be learning a shipping 101 lesson here. A shipment has (a) an actual weight and (b) a dimensional weight. You pay the shipping charge based on the highest weight of these two.
Go into your Shipping Labels page, and find the transaction (you might have to expand the view to 90 days). Click on the amount shown, and it will show you both the numbers you entered, and numbers that FedEx measured. For the dimensions, multiply HxWxD and divide by 166 ... round up ... that will be the dimensional weight.
When creating a listing on eBay, you need to specify both the correct weight and dimensions of the package so that calculated shipping can be done properly.

I love USPS. Time to switch back.
