Side with buyer again

I have 2 cases from my friends, and wanna share here, one is still on going. Both of my friends are 99% 400+ sellers

case 1:

Last year my friend A sold 10 pack of baby wipe, 29 days later the buyer requested return as arrived damaged.  My friend A asked buyer for photo but never got response and asked ebay stepped in. 2 hours later, Ebay said "We asked the buyer to return the item for a refund. When the tracking details show that the item is delivered, we'll refund the buyer. As a result, we'll either debit your PayPal account or charge your reimbursement payment method. This case will not affect your seller performance." 

10 days after, my friend got the return, all used. The buyer got refund immediately since the return is "delivered" on usps. My friend told ebay, side with buyer...

 

Case 2:

this year 3/21 my friend B got the returned request after 29 days of delivery, same arrived damaged reason, same no response from buyer. Asked ebay stepped in, same result and same message, return initiated. But by today, no response from buyer still? for this situation, how many days the buyer has to do the return? any deadline for the buyer?

 

And how come in case 1, the ebay just initiated the refund without contacting the seller? The buyer may just send the seller envelope to fake the return item delivered .

The timeline for a buyer to return to the seller changes when a request is closed and a Money Back Guarantee case is opened: As soon as eBay decides in favor of the buyer to return, 240 hours begin towards the deadline, which end at the same hour and minute which started 10 days ago.

 

The message to the buyer from eBay states this ending date*, but not the hour and minute, and eBay issues a return label to the buyer. However, neither this date nor the tracking number is revealed to the seller: The seller is only informed in exactly that italicized message that the return is on its way, and that eBay will force a refund the moment it arrives.

 

*Be aware, during the current crisis**, eBay may have extended this 10 days; the buyer would see the extended ending date.

**eBay has extended the previous 5-now-10 business days a buyer has to return during a request, beginning on Mar 25, to 21 business days instead.
