I just sold an item. eBay charged Buyer $34 for Fed-Ex Ground shipping, but actual shipping cost to me (Seller) is $42. Weight and dimensions were entered for listing and have not changed. Shipping from Florida to California.
1. Why?
2. How do I collect the extra $8?

By the way - I designated FedEx Calculated as shipping method in the listing. FedEx Ground was my lowest option, but still higher than what Buyer was made to pay.

Without more info. it's hard to tell how the calculator price could be different than the price you are having to pay without the weight or dimensions of the package being different, or some other added service like signature confirmation. One possibility is that there is a FedEx Ground vs Home Delivery price difference.
You can contact buyer to try to get the extra $8 but best practice is to eat that $8 as you don't want angry buyers, and then figure out what happened with your listed package vs actual and don't make that mistake next time.

Thank you. Finding out WHY is exactly why I posted this question. No signature or insurance added (that would make my cost even higher. Buyer address is commercial, and FedEx label quote is for Ground service.
You asked for more info. What info would help?
"Don't make that mistake next time?" I did not make any mistake - eBay did.
I usually inflate the weight and dimensions to cover the eBay fee on shipping, and it usually works-out close.

OK. I just went back and checked an order that I shipped by FedEx Ground last week. I know for a fact that the Buyer's cost and actual shipping label quote were identical last week ($49). But today if I select "print another label", it wants to charge me $59!
So, either the eBay/FedEx rates went up by more than 20% in last few days, or the eBay shipping calculator is not working correctly today.

Regarding that other order from last week - I have a few of the same items left on that listing. If I enter the Buyer's zip code from last week, it still shows $49 for shipping (Buyer's cost). But I would have to pay $59 for the label.

You don't.
You can't ask the buyer to pay any more then what was shown in the listing.
You make up the difference, then hope FedEx doesn't charge you more after the package has been delivered.

If you are sure it's something not due to package characteristics and some bug or problem with the calculator vs actual shipping label generation you might want to think about switching your listings to another shipping service like UPS Ground or USPS Ground Advantage.
There have been a lot of complaints about FedEx through eBay labels.

If I go to my FedEx account and manually put in the info, it quotes me $24 for FedEX Ground. So, something is definitely wrong on eBay!

Stop using the EBay shipping labels it’s a sham . You are not benefiting from the So called discounted shipping labels it’s a scam . eBay is not making the carriers honor their label program. So if you pay for a label at this cost and it’s getting adjusted by the carrier that’s fraud. Stop using them

Sham? Not sure what you mean by "getting adjusted". My concern is that either there was a 25% increase in eBay's Fed-Ex rate since last week, or it is calculating the label cost wrong this week. Amount being charged to Buyer appears to be correct, but Seller FE costs are inflated, and more than what Buyer has paid.

If you have a FedEx account, use it to purchase the labels. That way, you are the purchaser and not eBay. As the purchaser, you will be able to contact FedEx directly if there should be discrepancies.

6 months later, and this problem still happens. I called eBay and they acted like I was from Mars.
