Fake item with a fake location

I purchased a Gucci bag purportedly located in California and it was a big mistake. All the signs were there, but the price was so good and I wanted it so much that I ignored them all. The seller is new and has no feedback and the item description screamed scam. The day after I bought the item I realized what a horrible mistake I had made. I compared the item photos with photos from the Gucci website and realized beyond a shadow of doubt that the bag was counterfeit. I messaged the seller, repeatedly, to try to cancel the purchase but the seller mailed it anyway and maintained that it was an authentic bag. I received the same message, in broken English, again and again - from different hotmails. The message said "Hi,I have delivered item, item in the road,it soon quick arrive your hand, please be patient. thank you". I didn't know what else to do so I requested a return, though the I hadn't received the item and don't know when I will. I've yet to be alerted by Ebay that the item has been shipped but the seller claims it's "in the road" so I don't know.

Today I received a message notifying me that my return request had been accepted by the seller and I have until December 13th to return it. The message included a return label with a California address and an attachment from the seller with a confusing message saying I have to return the item to his real address, in North Korea. I have to admit, my mind is kind of blown. North Korea? Really?

I've tried to call Ebay but I'm in Iceland and they apparently neither take calls from here nor receive them. I can't report the item because it's been removed, probably by the seller. This also means I can no longer contact the seller.

If anyone can help me I would be so grateful. I paid over $500 for the fake bag and I'm feeling incredibly stupid. I probably shouldn't have spent that money even if it was real.

I was basically just hoping I could strong-arm the seller into not shipping it and refunding me immediately. I could no longer cancel the order since my payment had gone through and it didn't appear to have been shipped. I know it was probably stupid but the seller was ignoring my messages and I was having a hard time getting through to Ebay. I basically just didn't know what to do.

Hmmm...thb it sounds like you were trying to strong arm the seller in to refunding after they shipped to get a freebie...

Re: Fake item with a fake location

Not at all. I just don't want a fake bag and I'm pretty sure it's illegal to sell it as authentic. I know Ebay isn't too keen on it anyway.

Re: Fake item with a fake location

Calm down. Freaking out is making it hard to help you. You have an open case with PayPal correct? Call them and change it to item not received. Close it out as soon as you can. If you somehow get something from the seller return it with the shipping label provided to California. Here's where I'm confused - did you get the return label from PayPal? If you got it from ebay you do have 2 cases open and I don't know how you did that.

OP has nothing to return.

Simply another buyer who ignored all the warning signs in the listing.

Then made a mess of using the MBG.

Then came here to be bailed out...sigh

Yup.  OP kerfluffled this one from the git-go.  I have no idea how it will turn out, but I can't imagine the OP will be pleased with the ending.

OK kids, time to get the Dodge loaded up again. I hear 'Poppy's By the Tree' calling. This trip might be a long one too.

Just like I have been saying...THE MBG is hard to understand and navigate. It would benefit eBay to have a tutorial with pictures/video's so the Buyers would know how to proceed...Of course nothing but the facts.

Re: Fake item with a fake location

Here’s how to get your money back

  1. Go to My eBay

If your item hasn’t arrived or isn’t as described, go to My eBay, find the item in your purchase history, and select return or item not received within 30 days of delivery.

Seems straight forward to me.

Re: Fake item with a fake location

It's not so straightforward when the seller has deleted the item and I can no longer contact him.

A seller is unable to remove an item after a sale...only eBay is able to do that & they send a message to let you know what steps to take if that happens.

Re: Fake item with a fake location

The return label was from Ebay, the two attachments to this post are what I received from them and the seller. The seller proceeded to delete the item post so it's no longer there and I can't contact them. I kind of freaked out and yes I did jump the gun. I was just really scared and I wanted this to end immediately which was naive. I asked my mom what to do because she's an experienced seller and she told me to file a claim with PayPal. That turned out to be a mistake. I should have come to this forum right away but I didn't know about it. I thought there must be some way to contact Ebay directly but that didn't work and I had kind of just lost hope so I did as my mother told me and filed a claim through PayPal.

Re: Fake item with a fake location

I haven't received any notification from Ebay to that effect. The item is simply not there anymore and my case has been closed.

One of the eBay blues posted on this thread...have they contacted you?

Re: Fake item with a fake location

No, he told me to look out for a couple of emails. I received a couple of emails and they just stated that my case had been closed.

I understand that I did everything wrong in dealing with this issue. I'm just hoping against hope that someone can fix it.

Re: Fake item with a fake location

I paid through PayPal. I stupidly filed a claim through them too, causing my Ebay claim to be closed. Then I accidentally cancelled my PayPal claim when I was trying to edit it.

Basically it would seem that I am both screwed, and a moron.

Re: Fake item with a fake location

I’m real,y sorry! I can’t even imagine spending $500 on a bag. It amazes me that people buy expensive items like that from strangers online. I hope you can get a refund if indeed it is fake.
