EIS Restrictions cost both me and eBay money.

Sadly the EIS program will not ship coins and currency at this time. As I recall the old global shipping was the same way at first, but changed so hopefully this will also change. I had a buyer in Singapore who I would have shipped to through EIS, but I don't ship directly. Had to cancel the sale and relist, sold for over $100 less. Still a good sale for me, but it cost me some profit and of course eBay their proportional fee.

(additional rant, the buyer had 100% positive (of course) feedback but had it set to private, not going to put myself at risk selling to someone who may have hundreds of positives saying "screwed me over")

Come on eBay, get coins and currency shippable, that will improve my sales and your fees!

You made a good decision regarding the buyer in Singapore

Actually it is more likely Singapore than eBay.

The link above will take you to the USPS mailing restrictions for Singapore. Including but not limited to:

Coins (except coins for purposes of ornament); banknotes; currency notes; traveler’s checks; securities payable to bearer; precious stones; jewelry; and other valuable articles.

The USPS has a similar list for all countries and the restrictions vary based on the home country's restrictions, not USPS nor eBay.

Re: EIS Restrictions cost both me and eBay money.

The GSP and eBay International Standard allowed stamps and currency so I'm not sure why EIS restricts it now.

Due to export limitations and restrictions, items listed in the following categories also can't be shipped with eBay International Shipping. This is not an exhaustive list and it may be updated based on transportation regulations and export laws.

  • Any category or items containing Radium or other radioactive materials
  • Dangerous goods requiring hazardous handling labels & documentation
  • Export-controlled items requiring license > Ex. Military vehicle parts
  • Business & Industrial > Heavy equipment & attachments
  • Collectibles > Knives, swords & blades
  • eBay Motors > Airbags, used parts (containing hazardous residue), AC refrigerant, vehicle paint (flammable)
  • Electronics > Standalone lithium batteries (not inside or with a device)
  • Electronics > High-power lithium battery devices (over 100 watt-hour)
  • Electronics > Drones
  • Health & Beauty > Fragrances (flammable perfumes & cologne)
  • Flammable or otherwise hazardous aerosols
  • Jewelry > High value
  • Personal security > Pepper spray, stun guns, handcuffs
  • Sporting goods > Other (CO2 cartridges, firearm parts, laser scopes)
  • Replica firearms > Prop guns
  • Stamps, coins & paper money

Re: EIS Restrictions cost both me and eBay money.

It's funny seeing this list and understanding why a lot of these things are restricted...and then you have stamps and coins, lol.  I just discovered this is why my international sales have dried up. This is frustrating because it shows EIS when you go to list coins and doesn't say anything about them being restricted. Additionally, certain subcategories under Coins and Paper Money appear to allow EIS, but others don't.

Re: EIS Restrictions cost both me and eBay money.

Buyers are perfectly free to set up their own forwarding mechanism if they don't want to deal with eIS or if eIS is unable to handle their shipment.  If your buyer wanted these coins badly enough, they'd have set something up to use with your sale.
