Hi everyone! I'm selling a few things on ebay, started this year. I put in domestic shipping which is in Sweden where I am for $7, and worldwide/international shipping for $17. Someone just purchased from me and ended up getting the domestic shipping rate even though they are in the US. How is this possible and how do I contact ebay about this?

Sales tax are collected for every taxable items shipped to an address in a state with marketplace facilitator law in place, no matter where they are being shipped from.
IF the order total is above the $800 exemption for import taxes and duties, those are payable ON TOP of the sales tax.

No sir/ma'am, this package is coming from out of country, no Sales Tax is applicable
An Import Tax be a valid option, that's Federal Tax vs State Tax
No, buyer paid what was shown in the listing, US shipping.
If the item is being shipped to a state that requires Ebay to collect sales tax, yes, the sales tax will be collected.

There are no Sales Tax collected for items coming from out of Country. Those are import fees imposed by U.S. Customs and Border Protection based on value of the item
I am very well, how are you feeling today?
Then explain why buyers complain when they have to pay sales tax when they order items from China?

Why don't you ask eBay? Guess you don't trust them!?
Some of Chinese companies have dropship locations in U S. That'll cause domestic taxation

Buyer paid domestic shipping and item was in Europe
I think you are confusing domestic sales tax with import tax

I'm not confusing anything, I know the difference.

Contact CS, I wouldn't trust them to get anything right.
It doesn't matter where the item is shipping from, if it's being delivered to a state that Ebay has to collect sales tax, they will.

If you don't trust the platform you are doing business on, you're on a very rough grounds

Sorry but you are the one that is mistaken. As others have explained it the eBay sell your item form is set up so that sellers like myself who list here and who are not in the US, have to use the domestic shipping portion of the sell your item (syi) form for shipping to the US. If I list on this site and I want to ship within Canada or to any other country, the shipping method will show as international shipping.
That in itself has absolutely nothing to do with customs or taxes. So if my Herschel listings states that I use standard international shipping to Canada and a buyer in Canada makes the purchase, I am still shipping domestically. The label I get is domestic and there is no customs information on the label. Customs Canada does not say..”Oh oh…. The seller is using the term international shipping form on eBay so the buyer has to pay import tax”. It’s just a term used on a listing form which in itself has a absolutely nothing to do with anything other than how much the buyer is paying for shipping. The buyer does not have the option of picking whether the shipping is domestic or international…they are charged the shipping cost to Canad because their address shows they are in Canada.
If you make a purchase from me, eBay will add California state tax to your invoice because they are required to do so by law. That would be the case whether the item you bought from me was originally listed on .com and I had used the domestic shipping portion of the syi form or if the item had been listed on eBay Canada where the cost of shipping to the US would be under ‘international shipping’.
Bottom line…..Regardless of where a seller is located, if they are listing on .com the area where it states ‘domestic shipping’ is always used for shipping to the US. It is confusing fir new sellers but the fact that it is set up like that has no bearing on how the package is sent or on whether the transaction is domestic or international.

It's me and eBay, against you and the mob
I stay on with eBay anytime. I trust the platform
Don't write in long sentences, your purpose gets lost and interpretations fails you
You're wrong,
California Sale's tax is an inter state tax, if I buy from out of state, items are tax free. That is the law. But when I buy on eBay, I pay tax for the same item from the same Seller because eBay is registered trade in California
Hope this clears your thoughts
Again, if I sell something to out of state as a retail entity in my .com and ship, no taxes applied but when I sell to the same person through eBay, eBay collects tax, because eBay is a registered trade in their state
If you have any questions, I'll be happy to reply

No, your state of CA is Marketplace state, as is almost all other states that has a sales tax. There are two sets of rules and online venues like ebay have to obey the new marketplace law. For Marketplaces states ebay must collect sales tax as directed by each state regardless of whether they have a presence in the state or not.
When you sell directly out of state, you do not have to charge the sales tax, unless you have a presence in that state or your total gross sales to that state is over that state's threshold to collect it. This is usually quite high so only the bigger sellers end up paying it.
You have been getting and posting some really incorrect information. Please do some research before you end up in trouble with the taxman.

Some of what you said is correct as ebay does have to collect tax if a buyer is in California. This is true regardless of where the seller is located.
As far as the rest, I'm not going to debate it as you are ignoring the facts. I'm not sure if you are arguing because you like to argue or whether you really do believe that you know better than anyone else here.
Enjoy your day.
