I get tired of being hit with high shipping rates because of my own guessing the weight and size. This time I entered the exact size and weight. It is 5 lb. A box 8x12. eBay, showed $6 added to the winning bid. The real shipping cost, is $27.
I cannot simply go to the USPS and guess what the shipping will be and add that to the cost. Because obviously I have no idea where it's being shipped to before someone wins. So what am I supposed to do? Set a price assuming that it's going to the farthest spot in the United states?
It appears that for every state outside of your own, you need to add $7. So if the winning bid is three states away from you including your own, it would be seven times four
I am sick of eating the cost of everything. They are making it so we as local people have to raise our prices much higher and no longer be able to compete against big giant company selling on eBay

You would probably benefit from using ebays shipping calculater

Obviously you are Already using Ebay Calculated, but You are choosing the wrong 'type' of shipping. An item with that size and weight shipping MEDIA mail would be around that $6...but that item is NOT a Media Mail type item.
YOU need to change the 'shipping' from 'Media/Ecomony' to either 'Ground Advantage' or 'Priority' so the customer is charged correctly.

You should be using "actual shipping costs" on your listings.
The shipping rates by eBay are incorrect because your guesses are wrong or you are using the wrong shipping type, like Media Mail for an item that isnt allowed to ship Media Mail.
Dont blame the program for your eating the costs on shipping. You are not entering the information correctly.
I have had very few issues with costs on shipping and the few i had where my fault and I learned from them. I didnt blame someone else.

The big companies are hit with high cost of shipping too.

A 5 lb. package (my guesstimate of the weight of your Dodge Grand caravan Jeep Radio factory radio Sirius) going from Boston to Los Angeles would cost (full price) $29.35. For GA, it would be $20.50 and for media mail for which your item is not qualified, it would be $6.92.
Ebay isn't "deliberately posting incorrect shipping rates." You are charging for the wrong service.
Why do people have to blame others for their own errors?

Perhaps you should consider purchasing a shipping scale. They are inexpensive, and available at most office supplies retailers.
Plus the purchase would be tax deductible on your income taxes, and will save you hundreds of dollars in the future.
And no more "guessing."

In case the other posts haven't made this clear: your buyer was charged to ship via Media Mail, but since your item wasn't eligible to be sent via MM, you had to purchase postage for a more expensive service.
The very simple solution here is to set up your listing to charge for the service that you will actually use for shipping.

A Radio is a form of Media but not the form of Media the USPS is talking about for Media Mail.
You mentioned a "5 lb. A box 8x12" for $27.00. This seems very expensive. I am thinking that if you used you own box that could have been shipped for $12 or less. Give the missing dimension of the box and the from and to zip codes and I will see if there is a better way to send you could have used. This is of no help this time but maybe can save you money in the future.
