Closing/opening a Did-not-receive Claim

I opened a Did Not Receive request for an item. The latest estimated delivery date was June 27. The seller just wrote to me and asked me to wait until July 17 to see if it shows up.

If I don't close this request will it eventually close on its own? And if so, when would that be? And would it close in my favor or is it up to me to ask eBay to step in?

I am happy to wait longer but I don't want to risk closing this request and then being unsure if the seller will refund my money.

Thanks!

Closing/opening a Did-not-receive Claim

I have good reason to believe that this seller is not trying to scam me; the shipment has either gotten lost or really is just taking a long time. I know that eBay gives the buyer 30 days from the latest estimated delivery date (June 27 in this instance) to open a request. But for a request that's already been opened, I'm not sure if there is another 30 day rule for that which would apply here. Ideally I'd like to keep the case open until July 17 to give the seller the benefit of the doubt. But I'm worried that if I don't take action that the case will close on its own and I'll be out of luck if the book never arrives.

So I'm wondering, how long can I keep the case open without taking any other actions? And if it will close on its own, would it close in my favor or in favor of the seller?

Thanks everyone for your help, very much appreciated!!!

@openingnight You can wait for July 17th if you want. Once an INR is opened, it stays open for 30 days. eBay allows you to ask them to step in after 3 business days. I think after that date, you get 30 days to ask them to step in before the cases automatically closes without a resolution.

I just opened my first INR in years the other day as well, and was disappointed in how vague everything remains.

When you look at the case, what does it show for Status?  One would hope that would give you your deadline to escalate.

It has always been 30 days, but who knows nowadays 😞

Here's the thing. If you close it, you won't be able to open another one if the item never shows up. You can however open one on Paypal up to 180 days.

Personally, I think the seller asking you to wait almost 3 weeks past the EDD tells me it's coming from China and there's a great chance you will never see it.

If the seller uploads tracking (which reminds me, what does the tracking number show??), eBay may or may not put the case on hold a few days. Check the resolution center after 3 days and as soon as you see the option "Ask eBay to Step in", hit it.

Do not close the case! Its sad I have to assume this but I think he is trying to string you along. If it shows up you can always just pay him again.

Ask Ebay to step in when the case indicates you can.

You will be refunded.

Generally, you can ask Ebay to step in three days after you open the case.

Ask Ebay to step in so you get refunded. If the item arrives, then you just pay the seller again.
