I know Smartpost ultimatly lands into USPS so I don't want to cause a problem. I'm reusing a brown box that was sealed with PM tape. Anyone know if that is going to be a problem? I already taped the package shut with clear tape over the PM tape thinking I'll ship PM, but just checked FedEx SP and it is half the cost.

Priority Mail materials can only be used when paying for Priority Mail postage.

I'm not "using" it. It was already on the box from when I recieved it. It's not sealing the box anymore.

The Priority Mail tape is on the box.
You are required to pay for Priority Mail postage.
Is that easier to understand?

Will be easier to cover with duck tape.

Duct tape.
If the package is opened and inspected, there will be postage due.

Just take all the tape off and retape it with your clear tape.
Easy peasy!
The PO hates duct tape BTW.

OK, covered with 3 layers masking tape followed by a layer of clear.

You can still end up with postage due.
Why not remove the Priority Mail tape?

I'll take the risk. It's already covered up.

I think this nails it. I remove Prime tape because I'm kinda ashamed I sometimes order from them. But I totally reuse any servicable boxes. I get the plain packing tape from the dollar store.
Side note> I hate ebay branded tape! I know half my customers probably think they're buying from ebay, but they're buying from me darn it!
Just piping in here... I think this package will be good to go

If what you are saying and asking is true, this thread has become a series of missteps.
Both duct tape and masking tape are inappropriate for sealing packages. Don't use them. Even under other tape. You would need to use more tape to completely cover the masking tape to a point where the package is safely sealed than if you didn't use masking tape at all.
And using masking tape (or any other opaque tape - yes, packaging tape is sold in brown too) to cover priority tape is ... odd, to say the least. Using an inadequate material to cover a material that is not allowed..... Is common sense dead?

Just to add, this thread is another example of why Postage Due to the buyer still exists even after implementation of USPS APV (Automated Package Verification).
There are situations the APV cannot catch. Buyers can still get charged postage due if the package is caught by humans.

I sure hope you don't wind up half an ounce into the next postage weight increment.
Seriously, next time just peel the stuff off if you're not shipping Priority, and slap on some fresh clear packaging tape in its place. Takes no time at all.
