CLICK AND SHIP = EXTORTION

I made a sale and notices that the only way to get the buyers address was to ship with Click and ship. under the barcode displayed was 4.85 so I thought that was the discounted rate through click and ship. It as a small box the size of a baseball so I thought I'd be saving a few bucks. The next day I happen to notice with my credit card statement that a charge was made by USPS for 31.80. I called USPS and spoke to someone from click and ship they said I would have to contact ebay. I spoke to a customer service representative from ebay they said they could give me two refunds for 4.85 because 2 labels were input in the system. So the 4.85 that I though was for postage was just for the barcode labels. I didn't use the label that I printed out I went to the post office and the cost was 11.20 with tracking and insurance. I contacted my credit card company and placed a dispute against the 31.80! Why would I pay nearly 3X the amount to ship a box that has a content value of maybe 25 bucks after all the postage and fees are paid? Is this legalized extortion or am I missing something!

This is 100% user error.

When you sold the item, your ebay showed "ship now" in the order and if you clicked that button, it would show you the shipping label price for ground advantage, the shipping service shown on your listings.

If you saw $4.85, the weight of the item you put in was too low. That's the price of a 4 oz. package.

When listing your items, you need to either weigh or estimate the item so you're able to charge the correct price and you don't lose money.

Your listings show a $12 GA price which sounds about right for those items, possibly allowing a bit extra for handling.

I have no idea what service you used for $31!

But again, whatever happened is your error.

Not true.

You can get the buyers address without buying a label through ebay.

But why would you not want to buy your label through ebay?

What is it you don't like, the convenience or the savings?

Why did you use  Click and ship   instead  of  printing label  off  of ebay  which has  the better  USPS    discount  on shipping  .     what did you ship?

Was this the first item you have had to ship? I really don't understand what you did at all.  What made you think you had to use click & ship?  Why would you buy anything online if you were going to the post office to buy postage?  Why would you buy/print a discounted label online & then go the post office and pay again but this time you would be paying retail.

I always see the buyer's address when I create a USPS label through eBay.

I didn't use the label that I printed out

I contacted my credit card company and placed a dispute against the 31.80

If you didn't use the Click n' Ship label, you could simply have voided it online and gotten a refund. There was no need to dispute it with your credit card company:

Is this legalized extortion or am I missing something!

You are missing something.

So in the course of attempting to ship this item, it sounds like you bought

  • two labels from eBay for $4.85 each,
  • one label from Click n' Ship for $31.80, and
  • one label at the USPS counter for $11.20

It would be interesting to know the dimensions, weight, and mail class for each of those labels.

How it shows exactly $4.85? That seems close to the starting Ground Adv from the postal svc. That one is at $5.40 starting now for 2-5d shipping time. Might be that one less eBay discount.

The extortion is ... ebay will not give you the buyers address unless you buy a label from them ... which is incorrect.

Why not just void the label, it would have been easier on your Ebay account.

I use Pirate Ship for all my labels. They have the same discounted, sometimes better, rates as eBay but I use a cash back credit card to pay for those labels so that is just an added bonus and a reduction in the shipping cost.

I started this several years ago when eBay was not offering cubic rates as a shipping option which Pirate Ship was. It only took eBay about 4 years to get that option available but I have had 0 issues with Pirate Ship so there is no incentive for me to revert back to eBay for obtaining my labels.
