Recently I sold some shoes for 750$, and the buyer, who seemed very legit at a first glance with 260 refs, paid, and I thought that was that, and started to go about my normal life. Then this morning he claimed that I never sent him the package, and that nothing arrived at his doorstep, even though ebay shipping and tracking clearly said it arrived at his door. Ebay instantly says I have a negative balance in my PayPal, so I call ebay support. They were trying to be helpful, but said that on sales 750$ or above I need to get a signature for (how convenient right). They sent me a form saying I had to get a confirmation from him on a signed slip, but since I didn't send with signature (because I didn't know I had to I didn't have any proof. So I finished the call with them crying and sad. Then I looked more closely at the sellers profile, and all of his refs we so similar, it couldn't have been real people. In those 260 I found 3 messages that said SCAMMER TRIES FOR FRAUD, and coincidentally those 3 were the same people that had around 5-10 sales, whereas the rest of them had upwards of 1000-12000 Ebay instantly closed the case and reduced 750$ from my account. boom end of story, except now I will be speaking to PayPal support for the next 20 days, and make sure this guy never scams again

Im so sorry for you..but you have to have that sig confirmation for sales $750 and over..and evidently this scammer knows it..awful.

I am not 100% on this but think eBay prompts for signature when you generate label through them on expensive purchases. Will PayPal cover you? They may have lower standard for proved delivery. This site https://www.ship24.com/ provides very detailed tracking information. I am assuming paid via PayPal of course. PayPal CS support chat is amazing. Basically, opens a text thread like on your phone and then you can start a conversation that lasts until the dispute is resolved. Never have to repeat a story to anew CS rep and multiple reps will work your case.

Unfortunately, I dont think PP will see this as 'fraud',and what is said in a buyers feedback by other sellers doesnt seem to matter.

Sorry to read this. It is true the signature is required for items $750 and over.
https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/selling-policies/seller-protection-policy?id=4345
That being said, you need to file theft with law enforcement. It is theft was was done to you.
09-22-2020 12:54 PM
Sorry, but how do you see this as 'theft'? Ebay requires a signature on all items sold for $750 and over, unfortunately the seller did not do his due diligence with this order,and literally gave these shoes away.

Because the seller in good faith sent an item that was purchased.
They (Purchaser) after receiving the item did a item not received with eBay and due to a technical fail on the sellers part had to refund.
The purchaser still has the item (Provable by delivery comp) and has a refund.
Theft of item..
Also fraud to eBay if the truth be known.
eBay DID WHAT THEY DO.
THEN eBay IS NOT LAW ENFORCEMENT..

I wont argue with you, Im sure the buyer is a scammer targeting new sellers, but neither Ebay nor PP will see this as 'theft' since the op didnt follow the strict criteria Ebay imposes for delivering items that are $750 and over...its the same rules for everybody..no exceptions.

I care less how eBay and PayPal see it:
To law enforcement it is theft. Since $750 it is felony also.
Oh: and the signature confirmation is for credit card claims if the truth be known.

What a shame that you were ripped off.
Why does ebay say this;
"Please note that transactions over $750 require signature confirmation to be covered by eBay Money Back Guarantee.
https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/default/shipping-policy?id=5035
And then say this on another page;
"Starting October 19th, 2020, in order for a seller to be protected if a buyer opens an item not received case, signature confirmation will be required when the total value of an order is $750 or more."
https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/selling-policies/seller-protection-policy?id=4345
And the same on this page;
Is it October 19th already?
So starting October 19th you are not protected for item not received claims, but before October 19th you are, but not really?
What's with the October date?
09-22-2020 01:43 PM
Until October 18, the current policy as shown in your first link applies: Please note that transactions over $750 require signature confirmation. After October 18, the $750 threshold is "the total value of an order ". The only change is what's included in the $750 threshold. The signarure confirmation requirement used to be $250, but was raised to $750 a couple of years ago.

Go Public especially since there are other comments from other sellers and eBay didn't take him down. There's a sight online for this garbage. It's theft regardless if eBay or Paypal has a signature requirement or not. When you sold it - nothing pops up and says its free if you don't get a signature on your listing. In my opinion, if you are printing eBay labels, and they require this - then why isn't it already selected on the label?
Even if you don't get this fixed by going public, more people will be aware. If this is such a great deal and program, no one will care if you go public. Then you are doing a service for all the other sellers.
I would also follow up to see if the guy is removed. If there are other complaints from other sellers, then eBay should have removed him due to the scam. I can't afford to lose $750, obviously eBay & Paypal can't either, so they have shuffled it back on the seller and try to blame you. If a seller was ripping a buyer off - this would be a different story.

thank you guys for all the responses, ebay said they would bring it up to the appeals, on Wednesday. Which they said would take 24-48 hours. But I am still waiting. They also closed the case in his favor.

yeah and I sadly didn't know I needed the signature on 750$ and over, and when making the shipping label I never said I did, but now ig I need to read the polices better

also I said 725$ for the sale and he said 750$ because I was being so nice. 😓
