Just wanted opinions from other sellers about this return a buyer started, even though I know what the solution is. The buyer requested a return saying that the dvd/vhs player wasn't working right, but it's been more than 30 days since they bought it and got delivered , so it's up to me to decide if I accept the return. Weird thing is that it was working when I shipped it and even if it got damaged during shipping I would've assumed that they would want to start a return days after it arrived. I've never had a return like this so I'm not sure what's the best solution is.
Thank you for your time.

I have a quick question. I'm not in managed payments yet, Paypal only. If you are in managed payments, does that Paypal 180 day refund guarantee go away? Does managed payments offer the same liberal refund policy? Or, after 30 days, is a seller safe?

FWIW - one of the accepted payment methods for MP is Paypal.
The question I would add is, how do ApplePay and GooglePay handle failed transactions?

ApplePay and GooglePay are cleared by Adyen, just like the credit cards and debit cards Adyen clears at eBay Checkout. So all 4 are chargebacks (if the debit card offers it) at Adyen.
In other words, there are only 2 payment processors at eBay Checkout for Managed Payments: PayPal, and Adyen.

In MP if a buyer pays through PP, all the PP protections are available to the buyer.
MP does not have that same policy of the 180 days. MP has NO policy on filing for a return outside of what Ebay offers.

I seem to be in a similar situation over an item I bought that never showed up. Finally filed for a refund on Day 30 following the last estimated date of delivery, which turned out to be a day too long, apparently, as eBay rejected the refund and told the seller (supposedly) that he didn't have to refund me the $100 payment.
I looked through my PayPal account to find the original payment, thinking that I just needed to file with them, but it seems that because I funded my purchase with my credit card, PayPal wasn't really involved, so I ended up filing the chargeback directly with my card provider instead.

"Weird thing is that it was working when I shipped it"
When you ship older electronics like tape players you must keep in mind drive belts dry out
over time. The unit may work briefly but fail on extended usage.
If the model you are selling is high value but 20 years old you might want to replace
belts and tension rollers. Low cost cheaper models might be better off getting trashed
as replacement belts and rollers may cost more than the unit it worth.

Thanks for your kind reply!
Now I feel exhausted and agreed to give seller 400 euros and he returns my 5600 euros. It's very difficult for PP make a decision, at first the estimated solve date is 28 Oct, later 6 Nov, 26 Nov, 5 Dec and now 20, Dec. They give seller endless time to provide such " damage proof". I don't want to wait any longer so I have to accept seller's 400 euros fraud.
I just have one question, what should I do in the future if I want to return something I bought from ebay? When I return it, the seller can damage it and provide a damage proof to paypal, how can I avoid this kind of scam?

Similar problem from Buyer's side: I bought a space heater which arrived with damage. Seller was hedging (IMO), so opened a "return" w/eBay; Seller and I agreed on a partial refund, and closed return. So far, so good, BUT....
About 6 weeks later, weather got to the point where I needed the heater, so I downloaded an owner's manual and discovered that the model number of item received was not the one that was listed (earlier and less-"sophisticated" model). Full disclosure: Because the older and newer models are very similar in appearance, I never thought to verify the model number of the heater I received; the model number appears on the bottom of the heater, but I was focused only on the damage.

The Customer Service agent I chatted with advised that eBay's policy does not allow for reopening a return, once it is closed. I asked for an "exception to policy", but am getting nowhere with that so far. Seller has indicated a willingness to refund, IF I pay return shipping.
Best advice on how to proceed?

Yes the CSR you talked with is correct. Ebay doesn't allow for a second bite at the seller. I'm not aware of any site that allows for that. I do understand your problem and I'm sorry it happened to you. I hope the item still is able to work satisfactorily for you.

If a buyer asks for a return after the 30 days and I (the seller) deny the return, they will most likely leave me negative feedback. How do I deal with this? If the buyer leaves negative feedback saying "I sold them an item that doesn't work" all because I didn't accept their return, how is this fair to the seller and how would eBay recognize this?
