Buyer stated item was not as described or shown in photos!

I recently had a customer initiate a return for a pc gaming mouse pad. The customer stated the item was not as described or shown in photos. First the easiest to debunk was the photos. The photos for the listing were of that exact item. I only had 1 of them as it was. Second in the return page right next to their statement of not as described was the items title. In the title clear as day it states the brand name and "SIZE XL" in caps. It also stated the mouse pad was Size XL in the listing.

      I wouldn't care to return the item if they hadn't  went about it in a very disingenuous way. I reported an issue with the buyer as soon as I got the refund request. A week passes by and I received the mouse pad back. Ebay states I have 2 days to refund the buyers money. I never received any response from ebay before i received the return. I can never seem to be able to find a phone number so I can call but I was able to initiate a chat.  The ebay employee told me I had already received the return and need to refund the money. I asked multiple times why I never received a response. I asked what my options were because not only did they return the item under false claims they opened the item and broke the seal. The ebay employee told me there was nothing they could do for me. That if I didn't refund the order in 2 days my account would suffer negative impact. The ebay employee also stated that they would "look into the claim" however their decision would only affect the buyers account and would not help or hurt my account.

You want to know why you have to refund?

Because you got your item back.

Unfortunately many buyers know they can get away with a return easily by stating that the item was not as described. It is an instant return reason, regardless of your photos or description. Report the buyer and eventually, if Ebay deems them as a repeat offender, they will lose their MBG.

The return is just the cost of doing business and although it is aggravating, there really is nothing else to be done.

@steve-awesome

Since you got Ebay involved, if you don't refund and they have to, they'll probably hit you with a defect for not handling the return.

Have a great day.

It would be in your best interest to issue the refund. There's nothing left to save but your Seller Metrics. Good luck.
