Buyer did not include P.O. Box info when purchasing, only street address

A package is being returned to me because the buyer did not provide their 

P.O. Box info , only their street address when ordering.   

I used the address information that ebay provided when I printed my shipping label.  Solutions/suggestions?   How can I get the package reshipped to buyer without having to pay for shipping again (after I get the pkg back)  

This sale was made under the new Managed Payments if that makes any difference.

You can't. That postage has been used. The buyer needs to pay the S/H portion again. Invoice them for the postage amount and require a updated complete and correct address to ship it to.

 

The other option is to refund with the reason being 'problem with buyers address'.

you cant win in this siuation,just suck it up and reship it on your dime.If you had a decent buyer they might recongnize that they are  are fault for the problem but are most likely just going to blame ebay for the problem

It seems like I may be really dense, but I do not understand why the lack of PO box information would be an issue.

Wouldn't the package just be delivered to that street address? Unless, of course, the buyer did not have an actual box at that address that the package could be delivered to?

Perhaps that town does not have door to door postal delivery.

But if that was the case you would think that they would leave it at the post office main desk for pick up.

Yes, that was my point.  Unless there is actually NO physical receptacle for mail to be delivered, or no actual mail carrier to deliver to the home address, it seems like the local PO could figure out how to get the package to the buyer.  And that it would be less trouble to do that than to return the package to the seller.

I would agree with those who feel that you will have no method of re-billing for the postage portion.  You could cancel the transaction after you get the package back as 'problem with buyers address' so that you could relist it and start over.  Another hassle is waiting for the return.  I've found that the post office treats returns differently, meaning that it comes back very slowly.  If it took a week to get from point A to point B, it might take 2 or 3 weeks going from B to A.  I had a package returned for a bad address to South Korea take 3 months to get back to me in the US.  Yikes!

With MP after a buyer paid I do not think you can send a invoice. Sellers usually would get payment for the new label through PayPal. Most likely you will have to cancel the sale and after the buyer fixes their address they will have to repurchase. Since you purchased a shipping label you will want to have the MP dept. call and go over how to get the partial refund to the buyer when canceling the sale so that you are not out of pocket for the shipping as it was not your fault.

 

In the help section during the week use fee's and invoice for the reason to get a call and I think the MP dept. will call if  a non MP rep calls ask to be transferred to make sure you get the right support.

You can contact the buyer and let him/her know that the Postal Service is returning the package due to insufficient address.  Chances are, the buyer lives in an Apartment building.   

 

Let the buyer know if they still want the item they have to pay to have it reshipped.

Finally, you could ask if, thus and thus is the street address, is their a suite #, apartment #, unit #, PO Box #, etc.

 

This buyer must be getting their mail somehow.

It's beginning to seem like the buyer has a PO box at the local PO and that perhaps his town is so small that there is no home delivery available, that everyone has to go to the PO to pick up their mail.

A buyer should have a valid address on file with the water dept, tax office, Dept of Vehicles, US Treasury, AND OF COURSE EBAY, etc.  Prior ebay purchases would have required a valid address.

 

You cannot reship again for free. The USPS did their job. Be happy that the item is on its way back to you. 

 

So I would Block the buyer and not waste any more time and money. That's just me.

No, USPS won't just deliver it to the street address if the have no mail receptacle or have requested delivery at a PO Box only. I have several homes on my route that have PO Boxes for their mail . Those addresses are not factored in on my mail case or in the pay for the route. Some of these do not even have a PO Box in my office but rather somewhere else, most likely close to where they work so a notice can not even be left in their PO Box if the name was recognized.

Yes, reurns are handled differently, and yes returns typically take 5 to 7 days for a return trip.

 

Rebilling is fairly easy. 

Item comes back, message the buyer, ask if they still want it. Tell them they need to pay postage again and provide a COMPLETE and CORRECT address. If not refund minus S/H.

Most PO's have limited space. We may hold one with a Hold For PickUp order but in this case it would be marked NMR (no mail receptacle) and shipped back with the next dispatch.
