Buyer claims defective issue on brand new item. Won't answer any troubleshooting questions.

Hey guys,

I sold 10x of a brand new Antminer z9 mini. Buyer after 2 weeks is saying the internet isnt staying connected. I tried to troubleshoot with him but he wouldn't answer my questions. He wouldn't even answer if this is affecting just 1 unit or all 10 but he's requesting to return all 10. He isn't answering if the units are crashing (frozen) or just rebooting. Just, he had a technician come out and his internet is fine.

First of all, the sympton of an Antminer losing connectivity is related to high overlock  or high CPU temperature. Overclocking of any kind voids the warranty with the manufacturer. Second, defective NIC is something that I've never heard of on a brand new Antminer.  Thirdly, ALL TEN of them conveniently have a defective NIC?

I asked him about 30 questions and all he said was, my internet works fine.

I can make a few guesses as to why he wants to return. He probably didnt realize its **bleep** near impossible to run 10 of these in a tiny apartment. Tiny apartment probably can't handle the power requirements to run 10 of these. These things are way too loud to be running in a apartment. I know it's buyers remourse but the problem is these things deprecate 50% every month after being released.

Ebay has forced me to provide him a shipping label. Am I going to also be forced to provide a full refund? I mean he's been mining on these things for 3 weeks now making money , and now he just gets a free return and keeps all the crypto he's made since then? What if I can prove these aren't defective?

Yes, eBay will require you to fully refund the buyer, and eBay tends to always favor the buyer in cases where there is a dispute on the item's condition.   If you had offered free returns, then you would have the power to withhold up to 50% of the item's value based  on your evidence.

Hopefully you will get them back.  As a new seller of high-dollar items, you are very much a target for thieves / criminals who will employ a number of successful schemes to steal items or rent items (or substitute old defective items for your new items) - eBay's Money Back Guarantee is an effective loophole for crime since there are no consequences for the thief.**

Sorry this is happening.

** This is why we don't sell items over $200 in value on eBay, and we don't sell items that are high targets for crimimals such as cutting edge electronics.

Am I going to also be forced to provide a full refund?

Yes.

What if I can prove these aren't defective?

It won't matter.

"Uh no"  ?

wasn't much of a comment. Why DO some people bother.

"Actually yes"   was (under the circumstances) a perfect reply...if correct (I genuinely wouldn't know one way or the other)  but what's crystal clear, is that yet ANOTHER seller is, in effect being RIPPED-OFF, and ripped-off with the help of eBay  Smiley Sad

It's eBay policy to side with the buyer, liar? cheat & possibly (soon to be) thief...NO MATTER WHAT

Because these forums are usually a race to see who can be the first to give a seller's money away and get the most thumbs doing it.

The statement was wrong on two levels. I was wrong in not explaining my statement.

1. Copied and pasted from eBay’s seller update:

Restocking fee no longer permitted with free returns

A free returns policy means just that—free returns with no additional fees. Starting in 2018, you will no longer be able to charge restocking fees when you offer free returns.

2. The other issue being that when a buyer claims SNAD, eBay will force the return and the buyer gets a full refund plus return shipping. The seller does not have the option to provide any evidence that the item was not defective.

For #2 that is wrong when the seller offers free returns or sells in a handful of categories. Even on a SNAD, the seller can issue a partial refund when the item is not returned in its original condition. The buyer can ask eBay to step in if that happens, and if they get the rest of the refund, it comes from eBay not the seller. The partial refund policy applies whether it’s a remorse return or a SNAD.

What I said was "  The other issue being that when a buyer claims SNAD, eBay will force the return and the buyer gets a full refund plus return shipping. The seller does not have the option to provide any evidence that the item was not defective. "

The first sentence is admittedly a generality because that's what the MBG says. I imagine the percentage of sellers who have even been able to issue a partial refund on a SNAD case is slim indeed.

The last sentence is actually at the heart of this particular thread (seller claiming no defect)  and was a response to the poster who said " If you had offered free returns, then you would have the power to withhold up to 50% of the item's value based  on your evidence."

He was referring to evidence that the machine was NOT defective. Once the return was received and the seller had evidence there was no defect, how would he go about proving that to eBay?

I apologize if I was unclear.

If you read the quote I selected from the OP,  the seller is assuming that the machine is going to be returned "used" or perhaps with defect because the buyer used it.  My comments about partial refunds are based on that concern, and not if the buyer returned the item in new condition back to the seller (that is, the buyer lied about the return reason to get free return shipping or to circumvent a no returns policy).  If the item were indeed returned new, then the seller can not do a partial refund if they follow the guidelines of eBay.

We asked the buyer to return the item for a refund.

Keep track of how long it's been since the label was issued.  The buyer has five business days to return the item.  After that, according to eBay policy, you can ask for the case to be closed in your favor.  (I can't find the official link now to cite the source, but pretty sure that was the number.)

Ah yes robothands, you are referring to what I would call the kudos buddy syndrome...

It doesn't matter WHAT "you" come out with, your "kudos buddies" will give you the thumbs up.

Pathetic, truly pathetic. It comes only slightly ahead of the smug one liners, closely followed by the waste of time n space "links" some of our forum members post. grimacing

Oh, and sorry about this "buddy", but I felt your simple yet crystal clear comment deserved a thumbs up, so there

wink

Re: Buyer claims defective issue on brand new item. Won't answer any troubleshooting questions.

I just wanted to add an update. eBay gave the buyer 10 calendar days. Because they were forced to have me accept the return, otherwise it works have been 5 business days.

Also, now I'm piping mad. I gave eBay and the buyer shipping labels 10:40am Friday October 12th. Guess what it's been 10 calendar days.

Well they are saying yes but the 10 days doesn't start until they across the return which happened 2 days after I gave them the shipping information.

They are saying this guy has two more days.

Is this real life.
