I thought I was going nuts, the box sizes I originally put in some listings just change, and again I listed an oil lamp just before I went to bed and wrote down the box size and plus had my wife look at it 16 x 12 x 8, I sold the lamp this morning and when I go to ship the box size ebay has is 16.7 x 12.6 x 8.7 this is like a dozen times this has happened sometimes they are off by inches. Whats up?

The purpose of putting in the measurements is merely to help you (as the seller) calculate the shipping charge.
When you go to purchase the actual label, put in the actual outside measurements of the box. For fractions of an inch, round up to next inch.

Ok I put 12x12x12 and the customer is seeing a rate based on 20.4 x 14.3 x 8.7 and paying to much for shipping I have had people pay $10 too much cause the box size was not what I originally put in. So how is that merely helping me please explain.

As a customer (buyer) I have never seen the size of the package the shipping is based on. How does your customer get this information?

Hi @animal-house-8 . First question I have to ask as it's frequently the cause of weird stuff like this:
Are you using a 3rd party listing tool?
What's most odd about what you're describing is the dimensions are off by decimals.
The eBay listing form does not accept decimals for package dimensions.
The eBay label page does accept decimals for package dimensions.

The customer gets the price of the larger size he doesn't see the size ebay does not show that to the customer ebay just gives them the price.

Did you figure out the box size issue? I've never seen this happen, so I'm curious about what happened.

The box size I put in when I first list the item is different when a buyer buys the item.

That is what I thought. So how is it that you were able to determine the price is based on a different size box then what you originally inputted into eBay?
If you would provide a screen shot of the information that was inputted into you listing with your zip code and the receivers zip code maybe it could be explained why the price is different than you expected.

Very simple, you just put that the size and weight you originally put in with that person zip code and and comes up with the price they should have paid, if they paid too much for shipping, you can tell that by the order, that amount they paid for shipping is what ebay shows the buyer, which was not what I put in as a seller.

The shipping details like what I provided a sample of, will show what eBay based the shipping on to collect shipping fees from buyer. Whey you purchase the shipping you can change the dimensions of the box but the buyer would have already paid based on what was inputted into the listing to start with.
Did you have a Handling cost added to the shipping?
Can you not open the closed listing and look at what was the dimensions that were in the system when the item sold? Once item was sold the shipping details would not have been able to be changed.

I have seen before when purchasing shipping from the eBay link that the prepopulated shipping info during the purchase is not the information for the item I am working on.
The information had been left prepopulated from a prior sale and did not reset for the new sale. I had to cancel the label and repurchase it with the corrected information. This still happens but I am more careful checking the information before I purchase the label.
In these situations there were no errors in what the Buyer paid for shipping because that was based on what the listing said and not what the prepopulated window defaulted to.
