I accepted an offer based on a nearby zip code but when I printed the label the shipping information changed resulting in a substantial differnece in shipping cost. I felt I was deceived by the buyer. Is this something that happens often with buyers manipulating the system to get sellers to accept offers?

Well if it was the 5 gallon bucket of paint I don't think you had a handle on the shipping in the first place. You have Free Economy Shipping and ONLY $6.95 for Standard. First off this item can not be shiped via air, only by ground if it can be shipped at all ( I don't have time to check). But this is at least 40# (a gallon is around 8#) . By USPS retail ground it would range $30.10 to $88.72 (just an estimate on my guessed weight). Most people offering Free Shipping factor in the cost to ship to zone 8.

You need to be careful not to go by the buyers zip code when accepting a best offer
I accepted a best offer thinking shipping would be lower because of zip then at checkout buyer added the new ship to address which was now West Coast & the shipping was much higher
I buy and ship to family & friends all the time & change the delivery address on the check out page , never resulted in a best offer costing my seller more shipping , but bottom
line never go by buyers zip
some buyers may be aware of what they are doing but some may not even know how the change in address affects the cost of the sellers shipping .
