Advice on return request..he hasn’t even got it yet

Hey 

 

I’ve been on eBay for a while and this is my first return..I don’t know how to play it.

 

got a return request: does not fit..too large 

 

the item is still out for delivery Today and he hasn’t actually received it yet!!

 

this is for a very expensive home theater kit by  Bose and it cost me an arm and a leg to ship..

 

I want to decline 100%, but I’m a bit worried I’ll end up getting screwed in the end somehow by eBay with their blanket policy of the buyer is always right.

 

my return policy states NO RETURNS.

 

if I decline, what’s stopping him from claiming it’s not as describe or broken. Does the fact that he’s already opened a return request for sizing issues Work in my favor if he should try that?

I would call ebay and point out what is occurring here. You may want to recall the package, another consideration because of the value of the item and you want to make sure you get back what you sent. The situation is a mess.

If the buyer opened a return under the eBay Money Back Guarantee, you would not have the option of declining the return. "Doesn't Fit" is a "remorse" return, meaning you can decline it. If a buyer opens a remorse return request and you indicate you do not accept remorse returns, then you will have the option to deny it and eBay will not step in.

 

It is entirely possible the buyer opened the return on the wrong item but you would have to have a conversation about that. Before taking any action with the return, it may be worth noting that if you deny it, the buyer could open a Buyer Protection claim on PayPal, and chances are they will not use a "remorse" reason on PayPal.

I don't have a lot of PayPal experience so I would wait for someone else to prep you how to be able to deny it without necessarily having to deal with a PayPal dispute directly afterwards.

It's possible that he does actually have it. I just had someone leave me positive feedback on their item, yet according to my tracking, it hasn't even arrived. I've noticed that alot lately.

Also, is it possible that he has you confused w/ a purchase for a sweater . . . mixed you up w/ another seller? Or can the be too large and doesn't fit?

But in answer to your question . . . I'd be prone to just accept the return. . . . weighing the cost of both outcomes, you might lose less that way.

Sounds like a switcheroo in the making to me...claim not as described and then do the switch and the case has already been opened for the return which the seller must pay for in order to get "something" back, probably not what he sent which is an expensive system. 

Intelligent people with money who are purchasing don't usually hit the return button on the wrong item by mistake. I highly doubt it.

You are likely screwed sorry.

Here are the steps i would take. Send message to buyer always through ebay messages. Always be professional and helpful. Ask...."is there some other reason for the return request other than size i might can help you with as delivery has not been made to see if the system fits or not?"

What you are fishing for here is an admission that its buyers remorse/changed mind etc so you dont have to pay return shipping.

Once you send the message call ebay. Make sure they see, agree, and note on this call that buyer is making a false return claim because the item hasnt been delivered yet for buyer to claim INAD.

If you are a top rated seller and end up taking a return anyway you can refund just 50% if the item is altered or damaged. If new and taken out of packaging etc.

update!

 

case closed, I followed the advice and sent buyer a message asking if it was in error and it turns out it was in error!! Thank god!!

It can be refreshing NOT jumping to conclusions like others did and sending a simple message. Issue resolved, member can not open a return against you no matter what now (at least not on eBay). You'll probably get good feedback to. Good thing you didn't assume the worst 🙂
