Please Do Not Use Signature Required When Delivery Confirmation Will Do.

When Signature Required is used on a delivery to a residential location where no one is home during the day the package will not be delivered. The seller is paying an extra $4.50 to ensure that the package is not delivered. Just beacuse an extra option is offered does not mean it will do any good. I have received hundreds of packages over many years except for when a signature is required.

On the other hand, Delivery Confirmation is all that is needed to cover the seller and to show that the item was shipped and delivered.

I needed to say that and hope you all understand. Thanks.

Signature Confirmation costs $2.55.

Sellers who plan to use it for transactions below $750 should include advance warning in their listing description, so those listings can be avoided by buyers who don't want to have to trek to the PO to retrieve their package.

I agree that a seller should always contact buyer to receive approval to ship a costly item with signature required.

As a buyer, Better to deal with a minor inconvenience, than have tracking indicate deliverd, & not have received your item.

No one said that. Who are you agreeing with?

If I elect to use sigcon, I state that in the first sentence of the description. I do that whether the price is over or under $750, because I don't expect my buyers to know the threshold amount, or even to be aware that there is one.

To be clear, using sigcon is MY choice. If the buyer doesn't approve, they shouldn't buy my item. I don't ask for their permission.

You might have a different opinion of Signature Required if you were shipping "hundreds of packages" rather receiving them.

I only use SC when I am required to do so for my own protection.  However, on more expensive items that aren't over the threshold I will put in my listing description:   "Signature confirmation upon request at no additional charge".   If they don't ask, they won't get it!

I respectfully disagree with that comment.

I've had items in the past sent with DC where buyers have opened cases with eBay, even with it saying delivered, that they sided with the buyer.  So what makes you say we're protected?

It should be totally up to each seller to judge whether they should send items with Signature Required.

Obviously, dollar value of the item is a factor, but sometimes items sent to apartment buildings or office building suites, could be delivered to wrong unit numbers accidentally.  Even new users with zero feedback is a factor.  Or shipping items in large boxes is another factor.  Why would I want a Large Priority Mail box sitting on someone's porch for 6 hours, unattended?

It may be a slight inconvenience for you, but to me, Signature Required is another added insurance policy, and eBay even suggests this when printing labels for certain dollar values!

Only the buyer can determine if it is a "minor" inconvenience or not.

Thus, I also agree that sellers should make sure the buyer will/can accommodate the SC requirement on packages that fall under the $750 eBay/PayPal seller protection limit.

Thanks for the advance warning about using Signature Confirmation. I think it also helps to specify USPS or UPS in that warning. Let me say why it's important.
I think it helps a buyer to know that any buyer can sign up for free with UPS to be a UPS My Choice Member. When they do this they can have it set up with UPS so that all of their deliveries, or any delivery that they specify, will be delivered to the buyer's most convenient UPS Access Point of their choosing, such as their corner drug store or whatever. The package will be signed for by the drug store clerk, the buyer will be notified that it has been delivered there, and can pick it up at any time that the store is open.
UPS pays the store 50 cents for every package delivered there. So, even though the package may have been addressed to the buyer's home address, UPS will automatically sent it to the buyer's selected UPS Access Point.
The buyer will need to know in advance if signature will be required and if it is being sent by UPS. USPS is another story.
BTW this whole episode that I am experiencing now is over the delivery of an $11 order.

Thanks. I actually have shipped hundreds of items (CDs) as an amazon seller and have always used Delivery Confirmation, but never Signature Confirmation.

I never had a problem. 100% feedback. I quit selling 10 years ago due to new job requirements.

This issue would go away completely if eBay accepted Delivery Confirmation for Seller Protection.

Actually Signature Tracking costs $3 not $4.50

I use it in the hot summer months (on my dime) after checking the weather where some of my LP's will be heading. Note: I always notify the buyer a head of time.  Something like, I checked and noticed you are in Phoenix Az and the temps are in the upper 90's. I will be printing out your shipping label early tomorrow morning (around 3 am EST) Unless I hear back from you I will be adding Signature tracking (on my dime) just as a protection from these sitting out in the heat.

I also buy a lot of records but I have a standing order at the PO that they can leave packages in the office if they are large and heavy or if it is going to be a hot day. They leave me a notice and I go into town and pick them up.
