Please Do Not Use Signature Required When Delivery Confirmation Will Do.

When Signature Required is used on a delivery to a residential location where no one is home during the day the package will not be delivered. The seller is paying an extra $4.50 to ensure that the package is not delivered. Just beacuse an extra option is offered does not mean it will do any good. I have received hundreds of packages over many years except for when a signature is required.

On the other hand, Delivery Confirmation is all that is needed to cover the seller and to show that the item was shipped and delivered.

I needed to say that and hope you all understand. Thanks.

Me as a seller, it's not my fault you are not home when I ship a 3 or 4 figure dollar value item to you.  Buyers should assume that their purchase and investment will be shipped safe, even if that means using Signature Confirmation.

If you are not home, then buyers should utilize a secondary Confirmed Ship To Address, such as your work address or the address you are at when the delivery is expected.  I have used this practice, myself, and it works just fine.

I am just stunned to read that there are those still disagreeing with the extra added security of this feature and offering very poor advice!

Signature confirmarion provides no extra security for the seller on transactions under $750. None whatsoever.  Its required for selling protection on transactions over $750. But anything under $750, Its extra security for buyer ONLY and if it’s that important, they should ask for it before they purchase. Signature confirmation is also inconvenient for buyers who aren’t home during the day to sign for packages.  The bottom line is, if you want signature confirmation just ask for it. Don’t expect all sellers to start using it just because you think it’s necessary and gives them more protection.

You cannot speak for other businesses or sellers or their needs. WHile it may serve no other benefit for you it does for others. There are more uses for it other than PayPal requirements for seller potection bu PayPal and there are other times when it is needed or should be used. One example... People/buisnesses that don't even use PayPal and there are businesses that use things like merchant accounts, other forms of payments which are allowable on ebay in certain listings and such as well can and do use signature confirmation to provide additional protection....and they do not follow PayPal guidelines as PayPal is not part of their transactions. And there are many more.
It is also an option the post office provides for "anyone" mailing items...if they feel it is necessary to purchase it.
You cannot merely generalize and say it doesn't provide extra protection for everyone else based on PayPal requirements for PayPal seller protection nor does paypal requirements state that it should not be used on items under $750. It merely states what PayPal requires for coverage by them and them only.

I don't know why you are singling out PayPal Here?

It isn't just PayPal ... eBay has INR rules for SigCon.

The eBay MBG  requires signature confirmation on items over $750 (they changed it about 2 years ago from $250)

https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/ebay-money-back-guarantee-policy/ebay-money-back-guarantee-policy...

Seller obligations

  • Provide tracking to confirm the item has been received by the buyer
  • Additionally, for items with a total cost of $750 or more, the seller must choose a shipping option with signature confirmation

Just as an aside ...

I noticed that the MBG is no longer tied to PayPal.

Where it used to say that the transaction had to be paid with PayPal, it now says:

Covered

Purchases are covered by the eBay Money Back Guarantee when all of the following are true:

  • An item isn't received or it isn't as described in the listing
  • A buyer reports that they didn't receive an item or requests a return within the eBay Money Back Guarantee timelines
  • The buyer made the purchase on eBay.com via checkout or an eBay invoice with one of the following payment methods:
    • PayPal
    • PayPal Credit
    • Credit card or debit card
    • eBay gift cards, eBay bucks and eBay vouchers

Again you may not need it for more than ebay and or PayPal seller protection and you may not be aware it does serve as additional protection for some other sellers but that doesn't mean it doesn't. It is also not a buyer choice....buyer isn't paying for it. The buyer doesn't "need" the extra protection in most cases even though it does add some of them too....but some sellers do and there is no reason that should be such an issue for anyone else that is not involved in their business. IN some cases buyers will also request it fo their additional protect and for their own reasons. Again it is not disocuraged by ebay or PayPal and in such cases it may be very necessary as well for the buyer.
Also note ebay and paypal will also give you seller protection if you purchase signature conf. on items under $750.  Ebay and PayPal just say it is "REQUIRED" on items of $750. or you will not be covered.
Anything else is optional, as in the seller's choice....but not discouraged by either ebay or PayPal.

At the end of the day it is up to the seller to do what they need to do for their own business and their own protection and no one can say it is unnecssary just because they may not understand the reasons or because they do not feel the same way about it or because it isn't necssary for them and their items.

EBay and PayPal also allow for sign confirmation to be purcahsed on items under $750 in both their label systems..because they are aware it is sometimes needed and it is the seller's option.

That is not necessarily true. Again you may not need it for any additional protection for items you sell but it does provide additional protection. And there is a lot more that some sellers have to deal with besides ebay and PayPal disputes. Again something that you may not be aware of or that does not to items you sell.
So yes it can and does provide some additional protections for some sellers. Ebay and PayPal do not discourage any seller from doing it and they provide a way for all sellers ot purchase it on transactions of any dollar amount...because it is a need for some to do so. Sellers have a right to do whatever they need to to protect themselves and their business and their transactions and their money.

Delivery Confirmation is not protection of any kind, not for sellers and definitely not for buyers.  Delivery confirmation does not guarantee that the item was deivered to the buyer.  So, how could you consider that to be “seller protection”?

As a buyer, I am not willing to acept the rist of the items for which I paid, especially expensive items, not being delivered to me.  I have gladly paid for Signature Confirmation and I greatly appreciate sellers who are willing to use or require the use of Signature Confirmation.    If I have to wait in line and sign for these items in order to receive them then I am fine with that.

It’s 100% correct and factual information that you get NO EXTRA protection from eBay and PayPal when you purchase signature confirmation on transactions UNDER $750

If the transaction is $749 and the buyer files an INR, you win the INR if you provide proof of delivery via online tracking.period. End of Story. You win with or without signature confirmation.

If the transaction is $5 and you purchased signature confirmation, and you have proof of delivery via online tracking, you win. Because you had proof of delivery, not because you had signature confirmation.

No here has said sellers don’t have the right to use SC.

This is purely about buying and selling on eBay, not anywhere else. This board is for eBay-related discussions so everywhere is off topic and a moot point.

As a buyer, I do NOT want signature confirmation because I have a life and I’m not sitting around all day waiting to sign for packages.

I don’t sell here so.....I don’t need non-existent extra protection from eBay.

It doesn't matter what you want as a buyer...it is the seller that needs protection in most cases. And again some sellers have to deal with more than ebay and PayPal dispute...and that doesn't mean transactions on other sites....no one ever said it did either. Other sites were just brought into this discussion by "you"...not me.

As a buyer you are also not required to sit around waiting...you can choose to pick it up at the postal carrier or rescedule a delivery when you are home anyway.

And as much as you want to keep saying it doesn't provide additional protection as you said above you are not a seller so again may not understand what some sellers need to do or why...but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
As you said you are not a seller...so you would not know about what some deal with and why and what they need to do.
