Community platform issues I'm monitoring - update as of 07/13

Update as of 07/13, see bold text - Next update on 07/20

Hello Community!

Here are the issues that I'm currently tracking:

On the list:

  1. Difficult to edit posts or report an inappropriate post. It only works after selecting edit after the 3rd or 4th time -bug has been replicated and this is now a work in progress. The support team has mentioned that Safari or the use of an external mouse might be the cause of this issue. No new updates, this one might take a while to solve.
  2. Error showing that this widget could not be displayed - listed as low priority with support. A potential fix has is being researched, there is no ETA on when the fix will be verified.

Minor errors:

  1. Emojis are too small. If you search for cat emojis and scroll to the bottom of the list, those emojis are hard to see when used in a post. This will likely not be solved for a while.
  2. Some posts have the wrong creation date, though I suspect this might have to do with stale Community windows. Khoros is still researching and trying to replicate this issue, please update us if you come across this bug.
  3. Post flooding error. Please let us know if you run into this issue again.
  4. Hyper link in PMs. This is the issue where when sending a PM with a hyperlink the link is not highlighted unless you hover over it. A potential fix has been found and we are testing it.

Am I missing anything?  If I'm missing anything, please create a brand new post so I can easily track the issue and others can comment as well. The more folks that have the same issue, the easier it’ll be for me to build a case with the support team.

If you come across an issue on Community please note:

  • The date and time that you ran into the bug
  • How long you have been active on Community during your browsing session or how long the page has been up on your browser but not being used. We suspect pages that have stayed idle for a long time are susceptible to errors.
  • The browser and operating system that you are using
  • Videos and screenshots are also extremely helpful
  • To avoid running into errors when using community make sure you refresh your page often.

Providing as much detail as possible helps me to help support in replicating the issue. Once support replicates the issue, then they can work on fixing the problem.

Thanks!

5. Cannot return to previous location in posting history in your profile history. For example, if you are looking at a post page 5, in your profile history, and you hit the back button, it brings you back to page 1. - Bug has been identified and is currently a work in progress

sheila@ebay : This one appears to have been quietly fixed. Yay. ðŸ™‚

8. Lack of a poster's name appearing in the "in Response to" Line - need to explain this one to support again

I haven't tested this one in any detail myself, but at a glance, it looked as if the "In Response to" blurb might not appear if your reply does not quote any portion of that person's previous post (i.e. the one whose Reply button you clicked).

I can see plenty of examples where the Response line does appear without any quote from that person, as it should, but I have not noticed any replies in which a previous poster is quoted but not identified.

Has anyone given you any further details on what else might be working now?

Okay, that was easily disproven: my own reply above (Message 3) is not showing the "In Response to" line, even though I'm quoting you (sheila@ebay) directly. Whatever the pattern of this bug is, I'm not seeing it yet.

@a_c_green I was out of office for the last couple of weeks so I'll have to follow up on this ticket, but I also have to remind myself of this issue. I'll test this out and will post here. This one took me a while to understand.

I haven't observed the "in response to" function as an error, but as an intended design.

When you reply to the OP there is no "in response to" line.

When you reply to any other post there is an "in response to" line.

Is there a problem with the way that's working? I like the way that works. You always know when there's no "in response to" line that the poster is either replying to the 1st post, or they intend it as a general reply in response to nobody in particular.

@wastingtime101 I promise there's an issue with this, but I would love to be wrong about it. Perhaps it was fixed while I was out of office? It took me a long time figure this out, after a Community member pointed it out to me, and now it's been several weeks and I can't remember anymore. ðŸ¤”

Um, no... Sheila responded to you in Message 7 (here), and there's no Response header there either.

I can see that as one way of interpreting it, yes, but in general practice I would always want that link to appear so I can see who the replier is addressing. In way too many cases, people post a response without quoting anything of what they're referring to, and are so cryptic about it that it's hard to tell what they're talking about.

Sheila used the reply button on her original post to create her response to wastingtime101, so the function is working as described in Message #6, and Sheila's post is not an exception. She chose to use the @ mention as an indication that the reply was directed to him/her rather than using the reply button on his/her post.

But that's a decision made by (or fault of, depending on how one looks at it) the poster, not the system per se. Some people aren't aware of the quote function or how it works, or realize how important it is for other posters to know what the comment is referring to. There are also seasoned posters who just use the reply button on the last post, no matter to which post they're replying--sometimes adding, "Just tagging." **shrug**

There's really no way to design a system that encompasses all the foibles, nuances and preferences of the (give or take) 10,000 individuals who make up this Community.

If only, huh? ðŸ˜‰

Community platform issues I'm monitoring - update as of 07/13

sheila@ebay, My group is one of those that had issues that are now resolved. https://community.ebay.com/t5/ThriftStore-GarageSale-Frenzy/gh-p/g-442

While trying to resolve the issue tyler@ebay started another group for us https://community.ebay.com/t5/ThriftStore-GarageSale-Frenzy-2/gh-p/GarageSale-Frenzy

and velvet@ebay moved some of the threads from the original group to the new group.

Now that the issues have been resolved will someone please move our discussion threads back to the original group so we can get back to normal? My group members are very confused with the current situation.

Thank you.

@msbear624 I'm a little confused. I don't see any recent posts in either group other than the test posts.  Are the links that you provided the only two?

sheila@ebay, this link is to our original group that we would like to have back.   https://community.ebay.com/t5/ThriftStore-GarageSale-Frenzy/gh-p/g-442

I started a test thread and asked other members of the group to see if they could post to the thread to verify that things have been fixed. Two of my members posted there yesterday. I will tag you in that thread. This is the group we want back.

You can see that some of the other threads were locked by velvet@ebay with a link for each one to go to the group that tyler@ebay set up. https://community.ebay.com/t5/ThriftStore-GarageSale-Frenzy-2/gh-p/GarageSale-Frenzy the members have been posting in that group intermittently in the Jan, Feb, March chat thread,  but I don't think they have posted in any of the other threads that have been moved because they are frustrated and waiting to get their group back. This is the group that needs to have the threads moved back to our old group. I have tagged you in the test thread of the temporary group.

Any help in getting us back to normal would be appreciated.

Hi @msbear624! I had those threads moved from the #2 group to the original group hub. They've all moved over except the photo thread (that will take some time because of how big it is). Once that goes through we'll get the #2 group removed completely.
