I have been selling on Ebay for 20 years and cant seem to resolve my problem. Hope someone has advice. Listed an item today and it was removed and I was put on probation. There are 27 of the exact same item listed with a recent selling of 9 and some sellers have sold up to 35 of this same item. I spoke to ebay rep and their solution was that all the ones listed were also probably prohibited and I should report them. That is just too crazy. Don't know what to do. Checked with FDA and can not find a recall there or anywhere on the internet. HELP!!!!

It would help if you told us what the item was. Since it was taken down and your account was restricted DO NOT relist it.

What was the item and what reason did they give for removing it?
Just because the others haven't been caught, doesn't mean it's ok to sell it here.

And there are some items and brands that eBay has decided can only be sold by certain authorized sellers.
The easy example would be eBay's fast shutdown of sales of masks and hand sanitizer in March/April 2020.

It doesn't matter what the item was or whether Ebay was justified in removing it. You accept your probation and move on and do not relist or your probation will become a permanent ban.

That’s sheep mentality!!! If you feel the judgment was wrong, you should ALWAYS speak up!! eBay has a bad habit of not explaining their actions, which is foolish. People can fix problems they don’t know are problems.

What item was removed? Just because there is not an FDA recall, does not mean it is something e-Bay allows to be sold on their site.
Can you expound on what caused your probation by advising of the item you listed? Some items have to have the expiration date in the item specifics and the description or they are removed, etc.
A little more info and we can certainly work to lend some insight. Please do not relist the item(s) removed - and often if they cannot be sold here, they cannot be sold on other sites as well.

Here we go again. Another “I’ve been here for 20 years and I don’t understand why ---(fill in the blank)”
How can you be here for 20 years and not understand. The classic example is the speeder who gets caught while speeding while others do not get caught. Should you, who WAS breaking the rules, be released Scot free simply because someone else managed to skate by because the cop just hasn’t seen them yet? Try telling that to the judge and see what it gets you.
The basic rule is:
Rule #1 The Boss (or eBay, or the government, or the FDA, or whatever) is always right.
Rule #2 If the boss is ever wrong see rule #1.
Yes yes yes I know - it is totally unfair. But is it really so different from, when you were a kid, your parents saying “Because I said so”. Discordia can explain it to you.

As others stated it would be helpful if we knew what the item was. This happens often and you are not the first seller to have an item removed and then post that there are others still selling the exact same item. Simple, they just have not got caught or been reported yet.
Government regulations change all the time and there is the possibility that 3 months ago there was nothing wrong with listing the item but due to some new regulation, law or change it is now prohibited.

Well with out knowing what the item was no one can say for sure:
Just remember eBay has the right to remove any thing you list for any or no reason if they desire:
As for the sheep mentality of its listed so I can:
as you have found out it can cost you.
It is your responsibility to know.

Sellers can be here for 20 years and still not experience being put on probation for expiration dates.
Ebay has so many changing rules, micro-management of seller traffic, and a new "product forward" algorithm that even the community shills can not explain how it works, so it' not the same as driving on highways. Highways have established laws that do not change every time someone has a better idea to "fix the traffic".
Your comparison would be equal to adding ramps and barriers on the highway and then giving out fines when someone who has been driving for 20 years doesn't see the quickly erected signs without explanation.
20 years is a long time to be selling on ebay and these sellers should be respected.

Since you won't return and tell us what it was, I can guess it was an OTC Medicine or other some type of human consumption item as you mention the FDA.
Anyway....
Because there are 35 others selling or 55 sold or or or...doesn't matter. There are over 1,000,000,000 listings here. Nobody can monitor all that. Ones that get caught, get caught.
But even more so, there are those that got approval to see certain things (OTC Meds etc.) so that could be another reason why they are allowed and you are not.
