The original use of it was not 'made up' though and was to recognise real grievances. Back in the day, to 'stay woke' meant to keep safe when African-Americans needed to travel in segregated areas, for instance - be aware of your surroundings and what things mean. It's just recently been **bleep**ized for political use and now just means anything that some don't like.
But you're right - the elite keep us plebs at each other's throats, fighting for scraps (either real or ideological) while they run off with the banquet. It's the old bread and circuses gambit, and distraction is the name of the game. Rather than "stay woke" I would say "don't get distracted."
