You had to print and pay for a shipping label after receiving money from your buyer for the item plus shipping.

Keep in mind your final value fee is based on the entire purchase price, including tax and shipping.  There is also a .30 transaction fee.

Your buyer pays you for shipping and you use the money to buy the label.

Re: why do i pay for shipping when the buyer has paid for shipping

The buyer paid you $21 for shipping so that  you could purchase the label for $16+ with that money.

You received less than what the buyer paid as eBay deducts your fees and postage (if you use eBay  labels). before you receive your portion.  Keep in mind that the fee percentage is based on the total the buyer paid. — Item + shipping + taxes.

You charged the buyer $20.95 for shipping and received the payment. You use that money to purchase and pay for the $16.64 shipping label.

Re: why do i pay for shipping when the buyer has paid for shipping

You need to do a couple of things. First read the eBay fee structure policy including all the details about how it is applied.

https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/fees-credits-invoices/selling-fees?id=4822

Second you need to get some tutoring in math, accounting and cost modeling. You are charged/pay for shipping because the buyer gave you money for shipping. In your case you actually came out ahead on the shipping since the buyer gave you $20.95 and the actual shipping was only $16.44. A couple of pieces are missing in your OP but for example.

Total Gross Revenue from Sale = $295.95

Sales Tax paid by buyer  = $??

Total FVF Basis = $295.95 + Sales Tax

FVF = 12.9% * FVF Basis

Gross Revenue = $295.95

Net Pre Tax Revenue = Gross Payout - (eBay fees +  shipping cost + COGS + packing materials + other expenses)

Re: why do i pay for shipping when the buyer has paid for shipping

Yes, buyer PAID for the shipping- meaning they paid YOU the $ needed for YOU to ship the item. This means YOU pay for the shipping label.

Sellers ALWAYS pay for the shipping, on any website. ALWAYS.

Re: why do i pay for shipping when the buyer has paid for shipping

The buyer pays YOU for the shipping.

You use that money to pay ebay for the shipping label.

So it's the buyer paying for the shipping, not you.

Anyone selling on ebay should know this.

I suggest you select "Free shipping", that way no one has to pay for shipping.

You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious.

why do i pay for shipping when the buyer has paid for shipping

Because eBay gives you the money the buyer paid for shipping (after they take out the eBay fee). Since you have the money, you can use eBay or whatever service you want to ship the item.

You, the seller, decide how much to charge the buyer for shipping. eBay collects total payment ($item+$shipping+$tax) and takes out their final value fee and $tax and gives you what is left over. You always get less for shipping then the buyer paid because eBay charges the final value fee on the full amount collected from the buyer.

Re: why do i pay for shipping when the buyer has paid for shipping

You received the $20.95 which the buyer paid for shipping. Then you pay $16.64 for the shipping label. That's how it works. BTW, that means there's an extra $4.31 in your pocket!
